From Serbia to Syria: legitimate reporting or propaganda?

Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church,
Former UK Ambassador to Syria and Bahrain, Peter Ford spent 35 years as a diplomat before working for 8 years with the United Nations doing relief work in the Middle East. He campaigns for a balanced British policy towards Syria, appearing frequently in the media.

American journalist and broadcaster Patrick Henningsen whose site 21st Century Wire provides a platform to those reporting from on the ground in conflict zones and who often calls into question, or directly disproves, the narrative of the mainstream media pundits.
Award winning international investigative journalist Vanessa Beeley who has reported from inside Syria, including liberated East Aleppo and has exposed the true Al Qaeda pedigree of the mainstream media darling – the White Helmets in exhaustive and highly lauded investigations.
Professor Tim Hayward, Professor of Environmental Political Theory & Director of the Just World Institute at the University of Edinburgh. Tim has written extensively on human rights and ecological concerns, and he is currently completing a book on Global Justice & Finance. He has published articles calling into question Channel 4 News, as well as the BBC Panorama episode ‘Saving Syria’s Children’.
Robert Stuart, widely followed blogger on the ‘irregularities’ in the BBC Panorama episode ‘Saving Syria’s Children’ encouraged film producer and writer Victor Lewis-Smith to tear up his BBC contract in disgust.
What should we expect from the mainstream media? Accurate reporting? Impartial analysis? Speaking truth to power? At times of proposed war or foreign intervention, especially, the public has a right to expect all these. So what about the now discredited establishment media claims that have led the 21st century wars of intervention?
Establishment media tends to be dismissive of independent journalism. Due to its greater size and influence the mainstream media (MSM) has avoided critical questions about its own reporting and journalistic standards and deflects calls for corroboration, verification and independent analysis.
The leviathan that is the mainstream media has formed the narrative and stifled dissent but that’s going to change. That’s why, with the help of its panel of five experts Accountable Democracy will be hosting an event entitled ‘Media on Trial’. Our experts will be applying the scrutiny to mainstream media reporting which we should all demand, given its power to sway opinion when our government is seeking consent for war.
Specific instances of falsehoods which have led to disastrous and deadly campaigns will be highlighted with fact based evidence, & insidious propagandist reporting for war analysed.
It’s time to hear ‘the other side’ – the one that the mainstream media blocks from the airwaves and print media, it’s time to place the burden of proof on the accuser and it’s time to hear from the little guy – the one who not only recognises that the Emperor has no clothes but has the strength and honesty to declare it.
