original title
French Alps Mil Software: Saad Al-Hilli family contract kill

Just throwing this one in here for the record. Has a bizarre element. Bodies found and reported to police by a cyclist, male driver and 2 women shot dead inside, shot girl outside and a further shot corpse dressed in cycling gear nearby. Was this a hit job gone wrong and by whom?

Quote:
Five people including a child were found shot in and around a British-registered car parked in an Alpine beauty spot on Wednesday. Firefighters were alerted by a cyclist – said to be British – who discovered a girl lying seriously injured in front of the vehicle in a secluded car park near the village of Chevaline, close to Lake Annecy. He was in a state of shock afterwards but has since spoken to police officers.

Inside the BMW saloon were the bodies of a man at the wheel and two women in the rear seats. All had been shot. Their ages are not known, but some reports said they were aged in their 40s or 50s.

A second man "dressed in cycling gear" was found "in the proximity of the car", according to gendarmes, who said the ground around the vehicle was littered with bullet cartridges, suggesting all the gunshots had come from outside the car. A bicycle belonging to the man was found nearby.

The girl was taken by helicopter to Grenoble hospital where surgeons were fighting to save her life. Annecy prosecutor Eric Maillaud said she is aged between six and seven years old. A source told French journalists that she had been hit by at least three bullets.

No arrests have yet been made. Maillaud said: "We don't know who could have done this. We have no idea."

He added that the victims were "found very shortly after the shootings".

No details of the ages or nationality of the victims were released by the French police.

Maillaud said: "The car is an English car, we are sure of that, but we don't know their nationality."

A British Foreign Office spokesman said: "We are aware of the reports of the shooting and we are looking into these urgently."

The area around the car park was sealed off and 60 gendarmes were searching for evidence. "At this stage of the inquiry we cannot have any idea what happened," said the public prosecutor, Eric Maillaud.

The local Dauphin Libéré newspaper said Chevaline residents had reported seeing a car leaving the village at high speed late on Thursday afternoon. According to Annecy's official website, the area is known as the "little Venice of the Alps" and is a centre for swimming and watersports.

Leila Lamnaouer, a French journalist, told Sky News that it was unclear if the victims were local or tourists. "A lot of people are coming here to spend holidays and use the lake because we have a beautiful landscape," she said. "A lot of English people live here because they love the place."

Coincidence... and I think it is coincidence... is that the murders took place near Chevaline - the code name for Britain's missile war head project...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevaline

The murdered man,Saad Al-Hilli, worked on satellite technology at Surrey Satellites near (and associated with) Surrey University...

All the reports i kept hearing seemed to suggest the french police were stalling and the fact they didnt find the 4yr old alive beneath the womens body for 8 hours suggests they deliberately were holding back.
Would it be normal in such a case to leave the corpses for that long--perhaps the police were concerned about boobytrap or something.

Just read that the other cyclist who found the bodies was a former RAF Officer--another coincidence.? Murdered driver was Iraqi.

I get the strong impression this chap has been killed because he knew something and was talking about it.
He was working for Surrey Satellites.
Did anyone else hear the coverage today that one of his neighbours had a 'strange conversation' with the dead man? Not clear if it was face-to-face before he left on holiday or on the phone more recently.
The neighbour felt he could not repeat it even off the record to the BBC reporter because it 'might be libelous'?
Was that a bit of advice, or a veiled threat, the police gave him?
I get the impression that the authorities - IE military and the police know a lot more about what this chap was killed for than they are letting on.

Looks like the cyclist etc were simply shot to kill any witnesses
A hit man paid through one of those numbered Swiss bank accounts?

The Daily Mail is reporting that Saad Al-Hilli was under "constant surveillance" by officers apparently working for Special Branch:

Quote:
Stationed on a driveway just yards from their target's £1million home, British police were said to have spent several weeks tracking the movements of Saad Al-Hilli at the start of the last Gulf War.

Officers thought to be from Special Branch maintained constant surveillance on the aeronautical engineer and his family, regularly following Mr Al-Hilli – who fled Iraq as a boy – and his brother whenever they drove off.

Last night Philip Murphy, a neighbour in the wealthy village of Claygate, Surrey, recalled how police asked if they could use his driveway to spy on the massacre victims' mock-Tudor house.

The retired finance director said: 'I watched them from the window and they were watching Mr Al-Hilli and his brother.

'I thought they were from Special Branch. They would sit there all day in their parked car just looking at the house.

'When Mr Al-Hilli came out and drove off, they would follow him. It was all very odd. I never told the family they were being watched.'

The surveillance happened as the invasion of Iraq by US and British forces began in March 2003.

Any operation on the family would almost certainly have been backed up by bugging devices within their detached home. ...

Here's more relevant information, from another Daily Mail article:

Quote:
It is understood that Mr Al-Hilli has been known to British intelligence officials for around 20 years.

In 2003, during the U.S. and British invasion of Iraq, officers working with the intelligence services mounted a surveillance operation on his home for several weeks, a neighbour who hosted them told the Mail.

The internet is awash with speculation – impossible to verify – that Mr Al-Hilli may have been working in some capacity in the spy world. He arrived in Britain in the late 1970s and was educated to degree level.

Intelligence officers from the British Embassy in Paris are said to have been at the scene of the murder hours after it happened at 4pm (3pm UK time) on Wednesday.

They were tipped off by contacts in the French Interior Ministry as soon as the identity of the car's owner was confirmed. According to the French TV station Demain, locals described embassy staff as being 'military type' and numbering around 20. ...

Certainly sounds that higher powers may have been delaying normal French Investigations. The French police spokesman sounded pretty vague about not finding the little girl as if he couldnt give the real reason.

Yes Tony -- I heard the neighbour say he had some info gained from a conversation with Al Hilli that he didnt want to say on air.

The car may have parked up to allow the other girl to go for a wee in the wood as it didnt look like a nice place just to park for the view and she comes running back when she hears shooting.

Independent today saying each victim shot three times in the head
BBC saying each victim shot twice in the head
Someone is lying
Stories changing
Clearly a professional assassination.

Also interesting that the police immediately put out bogus story about his brother being in a feud.
More evidence they have something to hide.
More UK Intelligence dirty tricks if you ask me.
If the police really wanted public help with finding the murderer they would tell the truth.

The Mail on Sunday can reveal that Mr Al-Hilli was part of a team involved in an undisclosed project linked to European Aeronautic Defence and Space (EADS) – a pan-European defence giant which has contracts with Russia, China and the Foreign Office.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2200600/French-Alps-murder-Let ter-shows-animosity-victim-brother.html

Mr Al-Hilli worked on map-making satellites, such as this one, police have discovered that the engineer was working on a secret contract for one of Europe's biggest defence companies

What is this 'mapping' satellite company really all about?
Clearly not a million miles from tracking and targeting for drones or even satellite based weapons now is it?
MI6 & or NATO/Israeli allies purging or exterminating anyone with a conscience who might go to the press & dob in some war criminals?
Yes and some of the EADS defence partners may have done the 'job' hiring some ex soldiers for the hit?
The frightening thing about this is they can plan such a kill with the knowledge that there will be little or no press or judicial scrutiny or accountability.
NATO killing their own again.
All under cover of a lawless European regime covered with bs about 'national security'.
The black shirts again & board room pin stripe Nazis.

The BBC has quoted veteran French journalist Alain Hamon, who specialises in policing and terrorism, criticizing the official response to the shootings. Hamon pointed out: "There is a very important regional forensics team based in Lyon, one hour's drive from Chevaline. Why wasn't it sent to at least carry out preliminary investigations?" Cyclists still bothering me. If as suggested the killer(s) were in a car. At what point were they keeping tabs on Mr Al-hili-they wouldnt know when or what time that Mr Al hili and his family would leave campsite. Maybe a bit risky to be sitting around waiting in a number plated vehicle for an unknown period of time, and a bit risky camping on the same site. However a cyclist keeping tabs would be far less suspicious and would only need make a phone call to say Mr Al hili had left and which direction. Cant think the killer(s) wuld just lie in wait hoping they would pass by. The deceased were probably under surveillanc by killers all way from UK. In which case there should be lots of cctv evidence of the BMW and maybe being followed by another vehicle in more than one cctv clip.

You get a thumbs up from me there, but not necessarily UK hit, if anyone else knew of the sensitive nature of his work. Seems odd that foreign nationals ever get cleared for these tasks even more so when a planned invasion of their homeland is afoot Surprised Enter Darth Vader looking for hidden plan scenes here.

Quote:

The Al-Hilli Conundrum

by craig on September 10, 2012 12:43 pm in Uncategorized

My post on the shootings in France has brought tens of thousands of people to this site – but not to read my dull contribution. People are coming to read the comments from other readers.

Today’s development of the bomb squad descending on the al-Hilli house does not in itself worry me enormously. You may recall the massive terror scare that was ramped up when some Muslim students in Manchester were found to own a bag of sugar.

In fact we have the opposite phenomenon today, with the spook-fed “security correspondents” on TV lining up to tell us it is probably just everyday household stuff. This deviation from the standard Islamophobic “Muslims = bombs” narrative is so startling it makes me wonder why the “move along, nothing to see here” line is being taken so quickly.

My own security services sources insist that al-Hilli was not a person of current interest to the UK intelligence agencies and was not involved in anything clandestine. I have no reason to disbelieve them. On the other hand, the limited and confusing information in the media is almost entirely from official sources. I find it very strange indeed how little attention has been paid to the murdered French cyclist, and how easily it is presumed he was just a passerby. Surely it is as likely he was the intended victim and the al-Hillis the accidental witnesses?

Please do read the comments on my first entry on the subject to see the debate unfettered by the censorship in the mainstream media. This is perhaps my favourite comment:

From Janesmith101

All comments regarding Sylvain, Al-Hilli and a possible nuclear link are being removed from sites I’ve posted on in The Guardian, Independent and Huffpo UK.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2012/sep/09/alps-killer-motive-baffles-po lice

Here was my comment, I added as a point of fact it was completely speculative and an unproven theory in a later comment, also removed.

Sylvain Mollier, the ‘passing’ cyclist, was in fact a nuclear metallurgist who worked for a french nuclear company called Cezus (a subsidiary of Areva). Cezus fabricates and processes zirconium into metal and nuclear grade zircoaloy for nuclear fuel assemblies – it also has other applications in aerospace such as components and ceramics for missiles and satellites. Mr Al-Hilli was also a skilled aerospace engineer, on what looks to be his first camping holiday.

What is the probability that two highly skilled engineers managed be at the same remote place, at the same time, yet still managed to end up dead as a result of what looks to be a military style assasination?

As someone else pointed out in The Independent comments, the deceased were found by a ‘retired’ RAF officer who, we assume, will recieve perpetual anonymity as a witness. If the police are looking for a motive, try an intercepted rendevous by a security service fixated on denying a hostile power illicit nuclear technology.

http://wrmea.org/component/content/article/162-1995-june/7823-israel-b ombs-iraqs-osirak-nuclear-research-facility.html

The Huffington Post UK reports that this wasn’t the family’s first trip to the camp site. An earlier report had asked other camp site visitors whether they had seen the family before and they had replied they hadn’t. If this isn’t wasn’t the first visit by Al-Hilli, it might slightly increase the odds that he knew or had met Mollier before, this being the last in a series of rendevous of a transactional nature. Mollier lived and worked locally.

Again, I’m not sure of the truth of these reports, there is some very sloppy journalism, as there is always seems to be. I’ve read for example Mollier’s company Cevus descirbed as a steel firm something which it is patently not, but perhaps it may have been a detail lost in translation.

An interesting comment summing up some of the strange coincidences, at least, surrounding these murders. My other favourite comment calls me a “macchiavellian shill”.

I have only one thought of my own I want to add at the minute. Al-Hilli was a Shia muslim and had been on pilgrimage to Qoms in Iran. What if it is indeed true that he was in possession of no especial nuclear or defence secrets to pass on to the Iranians, but the Israelis thought that he was? The Israeli programme of assassination of scientists involved in Iran’s nuclear programme is a definite fact. It makes as much sense as anything else at the moment, as a possibility.

I am not saying that is what happened. But the directions in which the mainstream media is being so strenuously pointed by official sources, like the massacre of an entire family over an inheritance, are certainly no more inherently probable. Certainly as we are now told all the shots were from one gun, for the assassin to get each victim in the head with none of them being able to escape, indicates real proficiency with the weapon and a very high level of training.

We now have a French hiker in the picture who claims he met the British Cyclist speeding away from the crime scene who told him in pigeon French there had been a bad drama ahead.

Quote:
A hiker who says he was among the first on the scene of a quadruple murder in the French Alps has spoken of the horrific aftermath of the attack.

The French man, named only as Philippe D, 41, described how he saw "no sign of life" at the spot where the al Hilli family, on holiday from Britain, were attacked.

Philippe told Le Parisien newspaper how he had found seven-year-old Zainab, who had been shot in the shoulder and beaten around the head, lying "apparently dead" beside the family's bullet-riddled car.

He spoke to the girl and clapped his hands to get a reaction, but there was none.

"I leaned over the little girl," he said. "She did not reply to our calls. I clapped my hands, but she was not reacting.

"I even said a few words in English, as I saw the car had British licence plates, but nothing happened. As far as I was concerned she was dead."

The man was alerted to the horror by the so-far unidentified British cyclist who came hurtling down the mountain road towards him.

"This man was terrified and in a panic," said Philippe. "He explained to me in bad French that there was a drama a little higher up.

"He was trying to call an ambulance. I didn't know if he didn't have a mobile phone, or if his phone network was not connecting at this point."

(would be interested to know why he didnt make the call at the scene--could be no signal or not knowing how to in france)
Philippe said he saw the bodies of Zainab's parents and grandmother in the car, but "I could see there was nothing to be done and there was no sign of life".

After calling the emergency services Philippe and the British cyclist gave their dramatic accounts to police.
(whose phone ? )

Philippe told the newspaper: "There wasn't a sound. It was like in a movie or one of those TV series where everything begins with a murder.

"Except this time the actors were us and we didn't have the remote control to change the channel. "

He and other witnesses were taken back to the scene on Sunday to recount where they had found Zainab and the murdered French cyclist Sylvain Mollier, 45, who was lying nearby and had apparently stumbled upon the shooting on Wednesday.

Saad al Hilli, 50, from Claygate, Surrey, was killed in the family car alongside his dentist wife Iqbal. Her mother was also shot dead.

British police have been searching the al Hilli home in Claygate, Surrey, and French detectives have been in the UK as the probe widened.

Meanwhile, a French investigating judge and a prosecutor will travel to Britain on Thursday as part of the inquiry into the deaths, a source told the AFP news agency.

The trip, expected to last just 24 hours, is aimed at boosting co-operation with British investigators and to monitor how the investigation is progressing in Britain, the source said.

Zainab has now awoken from a medically-induced coma and has been able to have a brief discussion with officers in France, sources close to the investigation have said.

She is seen as a key witness to the attack, along with younger sister Zeena, four, who was found unharmed, cowering inside the car hours after police arrived. She has been flown back to Britain with carers.

It is unclear who will take custody of the two orphaned children.

Police are satisfied that just one gun - reportedly with a 7.65-calibre - was used in the attack near Lake Annecy, leading gun experts to point to a Czech-made machine gun called a Skorpion as the most likely weapon.

The Skorpion was developed in the 1950s for use by security and special forces and is reportedly still used by armed forces in some countries.

All four who died were shot twice in the head and 25 bullet casings were found at the scene. The Skorpion usually carries up to 20 rounds but can be adapted to carry up to 30.

French officials said that despite media reports of the calibre of the weapon, they denied having confirmed "the nature, calibre and number of weapons used".

Officers are combing through CCTV as they attempt to trace a dark 4x4 vehicle spotted near the scene.

An investigation at the al Hilli family home appears to be winding down after British police identified items of concern and a bomb disposal squad was called in.

Neighbouring properties were evacuated as police focused on a shed at the bottom of the garden. Officers later said that the unidentified items were not hazardous.

Police were later using power tools to try to open a safe in the al Hilli home.

Some media reports have suggested that Mr al Hilli, an engineer who left Saddam Hussein's Iraq years ago, was known to the security services and was put under surveillance by Metropolitan Police Special Branch during the second Gulf war.

More on the hiker-- now accompanied by 2 friends (different source).

Quote:
A French hiker who was one of the first to reach the forest clearing where a British family was murdered has described how the seven-year-old girl, who was shot, badly beaten and left for dead at the scene, showed no signs of life.

The witness, named only as Philippe D, said: "She wasn't responding to our calls. I tapped her hands but she did not respond. I even spoke a few words in English, because I saw the car was registered in Great Britain, but there was nothing. To me, she was dead."

He then went back down the hill leading to the Alpine beauty spot near Lake Annecy to call the emergency services. They discovered the Iraqi-born British engineer Saad al-Hilli, 50, his dentist wife, Iqbal, 47, and her 74-year-old mother dead from bullet wounds in the car. Each of the victims had been shot twice in the head.

The body of a French cyclist who had been shot seven times, twice in the head, was found nearby.

The first person to discover the horror was a British former Royal Air Force pilot who was cycling up La Route de Combe d'Ire, near the village of Chevaline, last Wednesday.

The man, who has a house in the area, arrived at the car park at the top of the hill and saw a British-registered BMW with its windows shot out and the motor still running. The Hillis' eldest daughter, Zainab, staggered towards him, covered in blood, and collapsed at his feet.

Philippe D, 41, told Le Parisien newspaper he had been hiking up the Combe d'Ire with two friends when he noticed the British cyclist coming down at speed: "He was in a panic and was coming down the route. He explained to me with difficulty in bad French that there had been a drama a little higher up. He wanted to alert the emergency services.

"I wasn't sure whether he didn't have a mobile telephone or he couldn't get a signal up there."

Philippe D said he followed the British cyclist for a few metres before arriving at the car park. "I approached the car. I didn't touch anything, but I saw at once that there was nothing more to be done. There was no sign of life." He said he heard no shooting and "seen nobody passing … not a car or motorbike".

Police took statements from all four cyclists ?– including the RAF officer – and took them back up the Combe d'Ire at the weekend to determine exactly where they were when the killers struck.

Philippe D said: "A few minutes earlier and it could have been us in place of the murdered cyclist. We didn't know … if we were in danger or not – if those who had done all that were still there or not. It felt like we were taking a risk."

It emerged on Tuesday that French investigators were looking at claims Saad al-Hilli unexpectedly moved his family from one campsite to another two days before the attack.

A Dutch couple who had a neighbouring caravan said they believed the family had been planning to spend a week at the three-star Village Camping Europa site in Saint-Jorioz, but left after just two nights.

The campers said Saad al-Hilli had acted "strangely" during the stay, going off and leaving his family alone several times a day. There were also reports of an "eastern European looking man" wearing a smart jacket visiting the Hillis.

The family moved to Le Solitaire du Lac campsite, on the banks of Lake Annecy, where investigators said they had stayed in previous years.
(contradicts another report which said it was their first camping trip)
A member of staff at Village Camping Europe denied the family had left suddenly. She said: "They came to stay with us on Saturday evening and left on Monday. That was pre-planned."

She dismissed suggestions that Hilli behaved oddly during his stay: "There was nothing strange. All families leave the campsite at all sorts of times to run errands, go to the shop, organise activities, that sort of thing."

She said comments about a mysterious man described as appearing "to come from the Balkans" were "ridiculous". She said: "That was an Italian man who was here. He left and got on his plane, as was planned."

Zainab al-Hilli, who was shot and so brutally beaten that doctors placed her in a medically induced coma, is conscious but heavily sedated.

She is said to have indicated to relatives at her bedside that she is aware of what happened, but she has not yet been questioned by French investigators, who are waiting for doctors to declare her well enough to speak of her ordeal. She is under armed guard as a key witness.

Her four-year-old sister, Zeena, escaped unhurt by huddling in the footwell of the rear of the car under her dead mother's legs, where she lay terrified for eight hours before being discovered.

French police are examining two mobile phones found in the car and are understood to be examining the hard disk of a laptop.

British police are working with French officers to try to unravel the mystery surrounding the four deaths. The public prosecutor at Annecy, Eric Maillaud, has announced a press conference for 5pm on Wednesday (4pm BST).

Afterwards, Maillaud and one of the investigating judges appointed to oversee the inquiry will travel to London to meet the four gendarmes working with British police to find clues.

Doctors at Grenoble University Hospital have said it will be several days before Zainab can be interviewed.

French law requires that any questioning of Zainab is filmed, but the interview will be carried out by gendarmes who are specialists in dealing with children.

Maillaud explained to French journalists: "The idea is to bring the child to say things without asking them too many questions.

"Too often, a child wants to please and has a tendency to say 'yes' because they think it will please if they say 'yes'. That's not good for the investigation."

RAF Officer Cyclist to remain anonymous unlike the french hiker.

France shooting: British cyclist's 'nerves of steel' after massacre
The British cyclist who helped save the life of a seven-year-old girl after arriving at the scene of the massacre was yesterday praised by French police for his "nerves of steel".

The RAF veteran, who owns a home in the region, discovered the bullet-ridden car moments after the shooting.

He put seven-year-old Zainab Al-Hilli in the recovery position before smashing the window of the BMW 5 series and turning the engine off. He then called the police.

Colonel Bertrand François, head of the gendarmerie of nearby Haute-Savoie, told the Telegraph that the cyclist has been left "unable to sleep" after the ordeal. He said French police were determined to protect his identity.

"His private life is over for the coming months. He can’t sleep at night. He can’t even go out and do his shopping,” he said.

"We are doing everything to protect the Briton's anonymity. Put yourself in his shoes. Imagine what would happen if he goes public? His life will change from one day to the next and he doesn’t want that to happen."

Al-Hilli's employers EADS announced today they are due to merge with high-profit global butchers & destroyers of British Aircraft Industry BAE Systems

BAE and EADS in merger talks to create aerospace giant
http://uk.reuters.com/article/2012/09/12/uk-eads-baesystems-idUKBRE88B 11L20120912
"On the face of it this will create one of the largest aerospace and defence organisations on the planet, depending on how much they have to spin out to get this past regulators," said Guy Anderson, Senior Principal Analyst, IHS Jane's Defence Industry....
The merged company would supply a range of products from the Airbus commercial jets such as the A380 superjumbo and its A400M military transporters to the BAE-made Tornado fighter jets and its Astute-class nuclear-powered submarines.
The two companies have a long history of collaboration and are partners in a number of projects, including the Eurofighter and the European MBDA missile joint venture. A deal would also bring BAE back into having a direct interest in Airbus and the France-based planemaker's British plants, having sold its 20 percent stake in 2006.

And the closest EADS office to the incident just south of Lyon is their Airbus office..

Just wondering why the RAF officer would smash car window to turn engine off and also say he put girl in recovery position. . Is he trying to explain why he might have her DNA on him and perhaps fragments of glass--- both of which the killer may have. The 7 year olds testimony could be very interesting especially if she mentions cyclists and english voice. Lets hope they guard her very well.

Craig does it again

Sylvain Mollier, the ‘passing’ cyclist, was in fact a nuclear metallurgist who worked for a french nuclear company called Cezus (a subsidiary of Areva). Cezus fabricates and processes zirconium into metal and nuclear grade zircoaloy for nuclear fuel assemblies – it also has other applications in aerospace such as components and ceramics for missiles and satellites. Mr Al-Hilli was also a skilled aerospace engineer, on what looks to be his first camping holiday.

http://www.craigmurray.org.uk/archives/2012/09/the-al-hilli-conundrum

Craig Murray again...

Quote:
The mainstream media for the most part has moved on. But there are a few more gleanings to be had, of perhaps the most interesting comes from the Daily Mirror, which labels al-Hilli an extremist on the grounds that he was against the war in Iraq, disapproved of the behaviour of Israel and had doubts over 9/11 – which makes a great deal of the population “extremist”. But the Mirror has the only mainstream mention I can find of the possibility that Mossad carried out the killings. Given Mr al-Hilli’s profession, the fact he is a Shia, the fact he had visited Iran, and the fact that Israel heas been assassinating scientists connected to Iran’s nuclear programme, this has to be a possibility. There are of course other possibilities, but to ignore that one is ludicrous...

...What I did find interesting from a man who has visited many crime scenes are his repeated insinuations that the French authorities are not really trying very hard to find who the killers were, for example:

Quote:
the crime scene would have been sealed off for a minimum of seven to ten days, to allow detailed forensic searches for DNA, fibres, tyre marks and shoe prints to take place.
Nearby bushes and vegetation would have been searched for any discarded food and cigarette butts left by the killer, not to mention the murder weapon.
But from what I saw at the end of last week, no such searches had taken place and potentially vital evidence could have been missed. House to house inquiries in the local area had yet to be completed and police had not made specific public appeals for information about the crime. No reward had been put up for information about the shootings.
Behind the scenes, what other short cuts have been taken? Have police seized data identifying all mobile phones being used in the vicinity of the murders that day?

The idea that the French authorities – who are quite as capable as any other of solving cases – are not really trying very hard is an interesting one.

Huffington Post

Quote:
French Alps Shooting: Cyclist Sylvain Mollier May Have Been Target

Police have suggested that slain French cyclist Sylvain Mollier could have been the target of the French Alps shootings, which claimed the lives of the British al-Hilli family.

The 45-year-old cyclist has largely been the forgotten victim of the shootings, with initial reports suggesting the cyclist was shot after stumbling across the massacre.

He found himself in the "wrong place at the wrong time" Annecy prosecutor Eric Maillaud said after the massacre.

British engineer Saad al-Hilli, his wife and mother-in-law were brutally murdered in a remote spot close to Lake Annecy a week ago.

Seven-year-old Zainab al-Hilli was placed in a medically induced coma after she was shot in the shoulder and badly beaten, while her sister Zeena survived by hiding under her dead mother's skirts.

Saad al-Hilli, whose was murdered in the attack alongside his wife and mother-in-law

However Lt Colonel Benedict Vinnemann, who is leading the Gendarme police inquiry, suggested the cyclist may have led a "double life."

"Was the al-Hilli family the main target? Was it not the cyclist? Only ongoing work on the scene can answer this question clearly," the Daily Telegraph quoted him as saying.

"We're talking about someone whom everybody says was a gentleman, but who's to say he did not lead a double life?"

A police spokesperson for the French police told the Huffington Post UK: "We are working on all eventualities."

Mollier was buried in a secret ceremony, rather than being cremated in line with his family's wishes, reported the Daily Mail.

The father of three worked for company Crezus which supplies equipment to nuclear power plants. He had been off on paternity leave after having a baby with his wife who worked as a chemist.

While Saadi al-Hilli, his dentist wife Iqbal and her mother had all been shot twice in the head, Mollier had been shot five times. Altogether 25 shots were fired in the massacre.

Originally the attacker was thought to have used a cold war machine pistol, the Czech made Skorpion. However now investigators believe the gun was a Luger P08, a gun issued to the Swiss army.

The chief prosecutor Eric Maillaud in the area of the French Alps has been accused of "playing politics" over the murders after insisting the causes and origins of their deaths lay in the UK.

Brian Paddick, the former Metropolitan Police Deputy Assistant Commissioner, told the Telegraph:

“It smacked to me of more of a political decision than a professional police one,” he said.

"It was as if they did not want the reputation of France, and particularly this picturesque tourist spot, damaged by the suggestion that this could be anything to do with the French police or people in that area."

Was Mossad behind the Alps murders? There is no shortage of theories over the slaughter of a Surrey family... but could there be a more sinister explanation?

By DAVID JONES

PUBLISHED: 00:26, 13 October 2012 | UPDATED: 15:19, 13 October 2012

The house that once echoed to the giggles of two bright, fun-loving little girls is silent now. The cream curtains are tightly drawn, the Home Counties-Tudor facade needs painting, and the lawn — freshly mowed just before the family left for their caravanning holiday — is overgrown and sprinkled with withered bouquets. In the French Alps, time has also moved on. Bathed in glorious sunshine on the September afternoon when Saad al-Hilli and his wife Iqbal went for that fateful drive with their young daughters and their grandmother, this week the peaks were eclipsed by heavy autumnal rain.

Surrey

Merely examining his CV suggests they can’t be ruled out, for his engineering acumen —much of it self-taught — has taken him into sensitive establishments, including the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory nuclear research department in Oxfordshire, where he reportedly worked in the Eighties. If we accept the wisdom of expert colleagues, however, he was a never more than a small cog in any wheel, and information to which he was privy could be found on the internet. ‘He worked on Airbus, radiation equipment to kill cancer, and lately on satellite systems; but as far as I know he never worked on any top-secret projects,’ says Gary Aked, who spent four years at the Atomic Weapons Establishment in Aldermaston. Several years ago, though, when visiting his friend for dinner, Mr Aked did see something that may prove to be of great significance. Mr al-Hilli took him to the study, showed him a bank of four desk-top computers, plus a laptop, and told him how he used them to air his stridently anti-Israeli views in Arab chatrooms. ‘Saad was a very passionate guy and this was something that concerned him,’ he says. ‘He thought the Jews were taking over America and the world, and tried to get me interested in a book about the atrocities committed by the United States on Arabs.’ After 9/11, he recalls, his views became still more extreme. In one breath he would say it was ‘pay-back time’; in the next he would venture that Israel had blown up the Twin Towers to provoke the U.S. into waging war on the Arab world. All of which brings us to the theory advanced by a respected Middle East security analyst, who declined to be named. He believes the al-Hillis and the French cyclist could have been conspirators in a plot to supply nuclear material to Iran — and been eliminated by state-sponsored Israeli assassins. At first blush, this may sound the stuff of conspiracy theorists and spy thriller writers. But one commentator who thinks it is plausible is Roger Howard, author of several authoritative books on Middle Eastern affairs, the next of which will examine a chilling assassination programme carried out on European soil by the Israeli intelligence service, Mossad. Though the French police have declared themselves open to the possibility that Sylvain Mollier, not Mr al-Hilli, was the intended victim, no one has openly suggested that they might have been associates, and therefore jointly targeted. Mollier was not merely a keen mountain bike rider. He held a senior post with Cezus, a company based in the nearby small town of Ugine and owned by Areva, the giant multi-national that leads the way in the research and development of nuclear power. A spokesman told us he had been employed for many years as a senior production manager specialising in nuclear fuel cladding made from zirconium — one of the metals Iran wishes to amass for its feared nuclear programme. ‘Iran is unable to produce certain key materials and metals that are critical to its nuclear and ballistic missiles programmes,’ says Mark Fitzpatrick, of the IISS defence think-tank. ‘Export controls and sanctions have made it difficult to procure them, but Iranian agents are trying to exploit black-market niches — and access to advanced research and development work on specialty metals will help advance Iranian [nuclear] capabilities.’ Sylvain Mollier undoubtedly enjoyed such access, and given his professional contacts, Mr al-Hilli would surely have known where to find him. The Iraqi Shia Muslim would also have been aware of the Frenchman’s potential value to a cash-rich Middle Eastern power — though, as Roger Howard says, given the hatred he vented towards Israel in those chatrooms, money may not have been his motive. Just supposing al-Hilli’s hastily-arranged family holiday was a cover for a meeting with Mollier, the reason why he had stashed up to £1 million in a secret bank account, 40 miles away in Geneva, would begin to make sense.

This was in an article about "How relaxed" the family looked on holiday snaps taken half hour before the killings--which in itself seems a pointless article--

Quote:
The only known witness to the killing was seven-year-old Zainab al Hilli, who survived despite being shot in the shoulder and hit in the head by the attacker.

But she has been unable to help the inquiry in any meaningful way

Now I struggle to see how this can be true because anything she said would be evidence one way or the other. I cant think of any scenario that she witnessed that would not be helpful. IMO this is to protect her.

Alps al-Hilli murders: Man remanded over fraud charge
Mr al-Hilli was originally from Iraq but held British citizenship A man accused of trying to access the bank accounts of the family of an engineer murdered in the French Alps has been remanded in custody.

Saad al-Hilli, 50, from Claygate in Surrey, was shot dead along with his wife, mother-in-law and a cyclist near Chevaline, Lake Annecy, on 5 September.

Abiodun David John, 33, appeared before Guildford magistrates on Wednesday charged with eight counts of fraud.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Redhill Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Surrey Police have stressed that the fraud charges were not linked to the ongoing investigation into the murder of the Iraqi-born engineer.

Mr al-Hilli's dentist wife Iqbal, 47, her mother, Suhaila Al-Allaf, 74, and a passing cyclist Sylvain Mollier were killed in the gun attack in the French Alps.

The engineer's daughters Zainab, seven, and Zeena, four, survived.

The four murders are being investigated by about 100 police officers in the UK and France.

Also read a report about a taser being found at the Surrey home and police saying its not relevant!! As if everyone keeps tasers at home for the fun of it. Sounds like this guy knew he had enemies

Police investigating the murder of a family in the French Alps have released a sketch of a mysterious bearded motorcyclist wearing a rare type of crash helmet.

The biker was seen by witnesses at the scene of the shooting in September 2012, close to the village of Chevaline above Lake Annecy.

Saad al Hilli, a 50-year-old British-Iraqi businessman, was gunned down in the attack, which also killed his wife and mother.

The family's bullet-riddled BMW was found parked in a lay-by on a remote mountain road.

French cyclist Sylvain Mollier, apparently an innocent bystander, was also killed, although Mr al Hilli's two daughters survived.

The helmet worn by the man in the police sketch is a rare model, with only 8,000 made in the colour seen by witnesses.

It is a full-face model that opens from the side to allow conversations without removing the helmet.

Benoit Vinnemann, the head of investigations for the local police force, said: "More than the identikit photo itself, it is the type of helmet that is interesting.

"This is someone who was close to the scene during a time period that interests us and who may have done or seen something.

"He is potentially the perpetrator, but mainly a witness."

A number of theories for the killings have emerged, including the possibility of an inheritance dispute involving Mr al Hill's brother Zaid.

He was arrested by British police in June but was subsequently released and has protested his innocence.
