Arab Lawyers Union Condemns Decision on Stopping Syrian TVs as Illegal
Sep 12, 2012
http://sana.sy/eng/22/2012/09/12/441212.htm

CAIRO, (SANA) – The Arab Lawyers Union condemned the Arab foreign ministers council's decision to stop broadcasting the Syrian TV channels as illegal and illegitimate.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Union stressed that enforcing the decision contradicts human rights, and called for refraining from it as it imposes restrictions that violate international conventions as it is forbidden to hide information from the Syrian and Arab people and the whole world.

The Union called upon the Arab League Secretary General for immediate action to take all procedures to rebroadcast the Syrian TV channels, stressing the necessity for Arabsat and NileSat administrations to commit to the contracts signed with Syria in this regard.

Catch it while you can.

Meanwhile
A prominent author believes that the way Western media depicts the massacres in Syria reveals the fact that they are "done under the auspices of NATO". An unnamed military source said that the army attacked the terrorists who had killed and wounded many civilians in the village of al-Turaymisah on the outskirts of the western city of Hama on Thursday, Syria's official news agency SANA reported. The source added that a large number of armed rebels were killed and scores more captured in an offensive that was concluded without any civilian casualties.

Press TV talks with Dr. Webster Griffin Tarpley, author and historian from Washington, regarding the issue.

Ministry of Information: News and Photos Broadcast by Some Media on Terrorist Bombing at National Security HQ Baseless
SANA News Agency - Jul 18, 2012
http://www.sana.sy/eng/21/2012/07/18/432283.htm
DAMASCUS, (SANA) – The Ministry of Information said "Since the terrorist bombing which caused the death of Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Army and the Armed Forces, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense Gen. Dawood Rajiha, Deputy Minister of Defense Gen. Asef Shawkat and Assistant Vice-President Gen. Hassan Turkmani hundreds of websites, social networking websites and satellite channels started broadcasting huge amount of information, news and photos aimed at undermining the morals of the Syrian citizen."

One of the sources Webster Tarpley mentions is an extremely good one, and it seems to have gone under our radar. He refers to a Guardian article on Syria by Charlie Skelton, and it is brilliant: it includes the CFR, Bilderberg and God know's what:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/jul/12/syrian-opposition- doing-the-talking

'In September 2005, Kodmani was made the executive director of the Arab Reform Initiative (ARI) – a research programme initiated by the powerful US lobby group, the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR).

The CFR is an elite US foreign policy thinktank, and the Arab Reform Initiative is described on its website as a "CFR Project" . More specifically, the ARI was initiated by a group within the CFR called the "US/Middle East Project" – a body of senior diplomats, intelligence officers and financiers, the stated aim of which is to undertake regional "policy analysis" in order "to prevent conflict and promote stability". The US/Middle East Project pursues these goals under the guidance of an international board chaired by General (Ret.) Brent Scowcroft.
Peter Sutherland pictured at the Bilderberg conference. Photograph: Hannah Borno
Brent Scowcroft (chairman emeritus) is a former national security adviser to the US president – he took over the role from Henry Kissinger. Sitting alongside Scowcroft of the international board is his fellow geo-strategist, Zbigniew Brzezinski, who succeeded him as the national security adviser, and Peter Sutherland, the chairman of Goldman Sachs International. So, as early as 2005, we've got a senior wing of the western intelligence/banking establishment selecting Kodmani to run a Middle East research project. In September of that year, Kodmani was made full-time director of the programme. Earlier in 2005, the CFR assigned "financial oversight" of the project to the Centre for European Reform (CER). In come the British...'

It is a must-read article. This Charlie Skelton seems spot-on!

TV reporter killed on air by Washington bullets in Damascus

Iran’s Press TV claimed its Damascus correspondent was killed Wednesday by a rebel sniper while reporting on bombings in the Syrian capital. Two car bombs struck the Syrian Army’s command headquarters, setting one of the buildings on fire.

Maya Nasser, a 33 -year-old Syrian national, was killed while reporting from the scene, Press TV said. Hussein Murtada – Press TV’s Damascus bureau chief and head of the Arabic-language Al-Alam TV network – was also reportedly injured in the attack.

In recent months, Nasser reported from the frontlines of the Syrian conflict. His video reports from war-torn Aleppo were a valuable source of on-the-ground information.

“Maya Nasser was a true professional, and his help to me was priceless while I was reporting from Syria,” RT’s Oksana Boyko said, recalling how Nasser gave her advance warning of which conflict zones were particularly dangerous.

Nasser maintained excellent relations with foreign journalists working in Syria, and was often cited by colleagues as the only source of reliable information on the conflict.

“In private he always stressed that it is the hardship of war that had fallen on the Syrian people is what disturbed him the most,” Boyko said. “Maya always stressed that ordinary people are those who suffer the most in the conflict.”

Nasser never hid his identity, and frequently debated political opponents on his Twitter account. Though he was threatened on the Web more than once, he was remembered as always being fearless about his work.

I am not disputing that mortars were fired from 'rebel controlled area'; indeed I have thought the 'rebels' the most likely source of the previous mortaring as well, but I did not hear that stated in the video clip.
Was there another link you forgot to put in the post?
Please add it if you have a link; it would be very important info, and could be spread liberally in paper's 'Comment' sections.

Hi Paul,
I have possibly put a similar clip up but it was the Russia Today reporter who said this last night.
Pls search for another similar RT report & you'll find it

Here is one:

http://rt.com/news/turkey-return-fire-syria-771/

'At the same time RT’s correspondent Paula Slier reports that the shelling of Turkish territory is done from a Syrian region controlled by rebel forces, which prompts some observers to speculate that the rebels are trying to provoke their ally Turkey into a military intervention against the government of Bashar al-Assad...'

When Is The Syrian 'Opposition' Syrian?
By Andre Vltchek - Source: Open Democracy - Monday, October 08, 2012
http://www.zcommunications.org/when-is-the-syrian-opposition-syrian-by -andre-vltchek
At the outskirts of the city of Adana in southern Turkey is located an enormous US Air force base called Incirlik. It is actually only nicknamed ‘the US base’, in reality it is being utilized by the United States Air Force, the Turkish Air Force and by the British RAF. Of course for the United States it may be one of the key overseas military facilities; Incirlik is a home to about five thousand US airmen, ‘complimented’ by several hundred airmen from the British Royal Air Force. But the primary unit stationed at Incirlik is the 39th Air Base Wing (39 ABW) of the US Air Force. One look at the map and the significance becomes obvious: several ‘important’, ‘strategic’ countries appear to be in a relatively short flying distance from here: Syria, Iran, Lebanon and Iraq to name just a few. But recently the base is gaining new infamy: “There is plenty of evidence that they are now training so called Syrian ‘opposition’ on the premises of Incirlik”, I was told by renowned Turkish investigative journalist Huseyin Guler in the city of Hatay, near the Syrian border.

The base propels the economy of the entire area, both formal and informal. We park at the entrance of “Mujda’s Café & Restaurant”, near the main gate leading to the base. At Mujda’s, all prices are exhibited in US dollars, not in Turkish liras. Photographs depicting US military hardware, airplanes and the officers with all their decorations and medals on display are covering the walls. The exhibits are out of place alongside the kebabs, beer and yoghurt drinks. “Do people around here talk about the Syrian crises?” I ask. “They do, of course”, answers the waiter. “Do they talk about the training of the so called ‘Syrian opposition’”? I press further. “Some do”, he smiles evasively. There is a girl working nearby. We ask her about surveillance. “Of course my phone is tapped,“ she replies. “But that is nothing unusual. They are tapping everyone’s phones around here. Other things happen as well, but I can’t talk about them.” My colleague and friend Levent (he has to be identified only by his first name, for safety reasons) joins the discussion: “Wiretapping is just one of the most innocent things this government does. It is not only used for collecting intelligence, but also for character assassination of those who dare to stand in its way. For instance, the phones of the generals who declared their outrage and opposition over western involvement in Turkish affairs had been tapped, their conversation flow recorded and broken up to be fabricated into ludicrous but extremely damaging sentences, electronically.”

Incirlik however – is just the beginning of our journey. We drive 200 kilometers to the city of Hatay – a culturally and religiously diverse southernmost Turkish metropolis near the several border crossings to Syria. Most of the way the highway is suspiciously smooth and fast, perfect for the deployment of troops. It is clear that in Hatay almost everyone is afraid to talk, from the local barbers to shop owners, hotel receptionists or even the majority of common passersby. Suleyman, an owner of a huge coffee shop with several impressive water pipes is one exception, but even he prefers to keep his full name and the name of his business anonymous:

“People that the west describes as ‘Syrian opposition’ are considered here, in Hatay, as just a bunch of renegades and bandits. It is hard to believe they actually call them refugees! Refugees with guns, roaming our streets; get real! They are not good people. Almost all of them wear beards, carry guns and make our citizens frightened.”

A uniformed police officer appears at the door as we speak. He gives us an inquisitive look and disappears as suddenly as he entered. “90% of Syrian people are in favor of Assad’s government and only countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar are supportive of the ‘opposition’, and of course the West,” continues Suleyman. Soon a small circle of people is formed around our table. Once they hear that I am not ‘one of those official media people’, they begin gesturing and talking over each other, explaining that Hatay – the city they love and feel proud of – is renowned for the peaceful coexistence of various ethnic and religious groups. “There are Syrians living here for ages, as well as Armenians, Jews and other diverse ethnic groups. There are Sunni, Shia and several Muslim sects. We used to all live in peace!” “Hatay is very close to Syria”, explains an old man, sipping his strong tea. “90% of the people here are somehow linked to the major city of Aleppo just across the border. And this place – Hatay – even used to be an independent republic; it only joined Turkey in 1939.”

Then Suleyman who obviously has more on his mind, speaks:

“People here believe that the US and the west in general are heavily involved in the conflict in Syria, and that they are grooming the opposition which is both very religious and very intolerant. Hillary Clinton was here in Turkey, and she openly declared that her country would be supporting the ‘refugees’. Now, to make it clear, these people that are being called ‘refugees’ come to our city, and they rent houses here and then many of them are walking around fully armed, waving their machine guns. What is on everyone’s mind here is that they did not come here just to fight the war at the other side of the border – they appear to be quite ready and capable of igniting the violence in Hatay itself.”

But the right wing, pro-government media in the country is using a rather different, and more complicated language to justify the support Turkey is giving to the ‘refugees’. Today’s Zaman newspaper on August 29, 2012 noted:

“Exploiting the issue of Syrian refugees in domestic politics in order to criticize the government is a cause for concern, according to many analysts in Turkey, who believe that the tensions that have occasionally broken out in recent weeks between local Turkish people and Syrians who have taken refuge in Turkey should not be exploited by the opposition; nor should the issue be treated as one of internal politics.”

*

We drive to the border. It is almost a full moon when we arrive at the Cilvegozu crossing, barbed wiring and watchtowers on both sides of the access road. There are a few cars with Syrian license plates in front of an enormous metal gate, and there are several Turkish taxis waiting seemingly idly by the side of the road. But periodically the gate opens and the cars come in and out. My Turkish colleague inquires if we can pass to the other side and talk to the Syrian border guard. The answer is a resolute “No!” – no Turks and no foreigners are allowed to cross here. The border is open – 24 hours a day – but only for Syrian citizens and the ‘refugees’. Mehmet is a local taxi driver who is shuttling Syrian citizens between two sides of the border. He is at first reluctant and suspicious, but eventually he agrees to talk: “Hundreds of people pass through this gate every day”, he explains. “And this is not the only one - there are of course other crossings in the area. Some people who come here are injured. Syrian border guards are very lenient: if they see that civilians have been caught in the crossfire, they let them pass without any hindrance. And once in Turkey, they get registered, processed, housed.” He confirms that the border is only for Syrians and the ‘others’ (he does not elaborate, as we are supposed to know): “We can only take the people to the other side, to the Syrian post, and then return having picked up others from there. Everything is organized; it is not like some spontaneous border traffic like in the old days.”

Apaydin village is just a few minutes drive from the road connecting Hatay and the border at Cilvegozu. There are refugee camps; at least two of them. Officially all these camps are supposed to be for the immigrants escaping violence in Syria, but we are told that one camp is strictly for ‘fighters’ and the other one for civilians. “The nearest camp is for those who have been fighting against Assad”, explains a fruit seller at the side of the road. “There is a constant military presence around that camp. We are so unhappy about the Syrians coming back and forth! We are afraid, but nobody would pay any attention to us.”

As we make our way towards Apaydin camp, we are in constant telephone contact with the investigative journalist, Huseyin Guler. He keeps sending warnings: “I went 3 times near those camps. Yesterday we tried to enter the Apaydin camp but the guards became aggressive and tried to grab my equipment and to delete the photos. We resisted! They tried to take my cameras by force, but we said: ‘you’d have to fight us! We will defend our equipment. At the end they backed up, but only after some physical brawling. And this time we just tried to photograph the camp from a distance. Before disappearing, I found one sympathetic soldier. I asked him: ‘There must be some serious reason why we are not allowed to take photos.’ ‘Yes’, he replied: ‘There are commandos and soldiers from the Syrian opposition inside this camp’”.

Now we are here. I have plenty of experience with photographing army camps. Just in the last two months I managed to sneak into those near the warzones in Africa: on the Ugandan and DR Congo border, as well as to the one near Gisenyi in Rwanda. But Apaydin Camp is different. To be precise, this is no Red Cross or UNHCR facility; there are no signs of usual refugees, like baby clothes drying, families sitting idly near the fence, cooking fires sending smoke towards the sky. From the first glimpse, this is one heavy combat camp, surrounded by layers of barbed wire, with watchtowers, soldiers pacing back and forth along the perimeter. Tents are minimalistic and the entrance is like that to some military base.

We drive at regular speed surveying all the possible angles for photographing. Then one sharp 180-degree turn and we begin working: in a slow movement across the front of the gate. I use a very fast professional Nikon. All goes well, but the guard is also fast, and he begins to signal at us, trying to make us stop. We ignore him, making another fast 180-degree turn and hitting the dirt road along the perimeter, although at some distance from the soldiers. It is not much but it is something. I let the motor of the camera run and take a sequence of shots, from several angles. My Turkish colleague is at the wheel and he is as good and steady as one gets.

“I was inside Apaydin Camp only once”, explains Huseyin Guler, when we finally manage to meet in a safe place in Hatay. “I actually did not enter; I was dragged inside – I was detained! Others are luckier, but not many. For instance yesterday, a Russian journalist – Fatma – was for some reason allowed to go in. Later she said that those so called refugees are directly ‘fed’ with US intelligence.”

“You see, I have been working here now as an investigative journalist for one year and eight months. I shuttle between the border and the camps. Fighters leave Apaydin Camp in the middle of the night. And they return before dawn. We did our surveillance. Local villagers are confirming that the armed groups are regularly crossing the border at Kizilcat, which is actually a Turkmen village in origin. They march with the weapons on their backs. Across the border from Kizilcat, there used to be a Syrian control post, but now there is none. So the fighters crossing to Syria are managing to train the locals and to return before dawn. Turkish border guards just let them pass. Four months ago a Syrian MP came to Hatay. He protested at the murder of 120 Syrian officials in his country. CIA, Mossad and MIT (Turkish intelligence) immediately began pointing the finger at Assad and the government, but in this part of the world almost everyone knows who is really responsible.”

Huseyin Guler than recalls how he went, six months ago, to the meeting of the ‘refugees’ where he was told that they were invited there by the PM of Turkey himself – Mr Erdogan – and that if they were given money, weapons and training, they would be willing and happy to fight Assad’s government. Mr. Guler filed the story for Aydenlik. And the Turkish government never disputed it. He added, “In another border village – Asagi Pullu Yazi – I once met people who were coming directly from the fighting. One of the fighters said his cousin had been injured and was in the hospital. He even insisted that I know and use his name – Ahmed Mullah Hassan.”

*

For months I have been meeting Mr Serkan Koc, leading Turkish documentary filmmaker and the chairman of National TV (Ulusal TV) at a discreet café of Pera Museum in Istanbul. We have been exchanging our documentary films and at one point Mr Koc interviewed me for his television station. But mainly we discussed Syria. He offered great insight into the occurrences at the border; he even supplied me with his own photos taken in Syria, permitting me to use them in my reports. This time, when I went to the border, he was helping to coordinate my steps remotely, over the phone, and supplying me with the details of his investigation:

“Of course you do realize that those people are not really ‘Syrian opposition’. They are modern-day legionnaires collected from various Arab countries, including Qatar and Saudi Arabia, paid by western imperialist powers. Some are members of Al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations. Most are militant Sunni Muslims. One could describe them as rogue elements hired to fight the Assad government. It is important to point out that some 90% of Syrian people are still supporting Assad and I think he is now actually winning the war, although reading the western media you would never think so. Assad is enjoying the support of China, Russia, Latin America, Iran, Hezbollah, and many other countries and movements world-wide. The Turkish government is clearly in decline, supporting those terrorist elements the west calls the ‘Syrian opposition’.

*

We drive once again to the camps. A few kilometers from Apaydin, there is a large camp hosting Syrian civilians. In this one there are women and children in open view; elderly people are chatting in front of the tents.

According to the official media communiqué of the Governor of Hatay – Celalettin Lekesiz – 17 months has passed since the refugees began entering Turkish territory. 44,000 were accepted. Syrians with valid passport can enter Turkey for three months without a visa and extend their stay for 5 months. Syrians without valid passport or those who overstay are taken to the refugee camps. No refugees are allowed to wear military uniforms… 1980 refugees have been treated for gun-related injuries. 157 criminal cases accusing Syrian citizens have been field in the last 17 months.

The plush pastoral landscape around Hatay is charged with fear and uncertainty.

*

We are driving at an illegal 160km/h on the highway so that I can catch my evening flight to Istanbul. Levent is my friend of many years and this report was supposed to be signed by both of us, but at the last moment he decides that it would not be safe for him: over one thousand people in Turkey are already in prison, some tortured. The victims are nationalist (anti-western) military officers and generals, journalists and intellectuals. Levent is a young Turkish intellectual. After some hesitation he offers his theory:

“I don’t see all this as a regional problem. Syria is just one pawn in a tremendous game that is destroying the nation-states worldwide. The US and the west are intervening in Iraq, Libya and now in Syria with absolute impunity. Syria and Iran are two obstacles to absolute control over the Middle East by predominantly western business interests. It is all about control of the natural resources, of the people, the armies… World government project, with the west giving orders exclusively.”

Levent sees the Turkish government as a major and negative regional player: “The present Turkish leadership is clearly under the influence of western imperialist powers. But the way it behaves - is all very blurry and designed to confuse people. On the world stage, the Turkish government tries to portray itself as decisively anti-Israeli, but just look at the military arrangements between the two countries, including the air force base in Konya which is still helping to train Israeli military pilots!”

*

Returning from what could be described as the relatively new front of a global western neo-colonial war, it would be easy to feel disheartened. Just a few weeks before Hatay I was filming at the border regions of East Kivu, DR Congo, a country which has already lost near ten million people. The screws of global control appear to be tightening. Human life seems to be becoming worthless, and the propaganda of the western mass media almost absolute.

But as I drove, I thought about Turkey, and the more I thought about it, the more I felt convinced that Turkey is not just some depressing place between the west and the Middle East - another staunch ally of the forces ruling the planet. Its population is well educated, well informed and fiull of life. To me, many Turks have been a great source of inspiration.

Many Turkish people are resisting and by doing so they are willingly risking their lives. They are fighting, with pride and determination, and lots of them are ending up in prisons for their beliefs; for speaking and writing the truth about the forces that have been destroying the region and the world. I find it natural to lean on many of them, as they were leaning on me, translating my books, constantly inviting me to speak, asking me to join the struggle. As we approached the airport of Adana, I suddenly felt more hope and more strength to continue my work than before this short but revealing journey.

US Military Buildup on Syria’s Southern Border
http://www.globalresearch.ca/us-nato-military-buildup-in-jordan-on-syr ias-southern-border/5308179
We are at a very dangerous crossroads.

US and British troops are now stationed in Jordan on Syria’s southern border. Meanwhile, Turkish troops are being deployed on Syria’s Northern border.

The official story conveyed by Defense Secretary Leon Panetta at a meeting of defense ministers is that allied troops from the US and Britain are working under a “humanitarian” mandate with the Amman government to monitor alleged chemical and biological weapons sites in Syria as well as help Jordan with the influx of refugees.

A report of the Israeli Intelligence News Service Debka points to “the real reason” of allied troop deployments:

“US troops sent to the Jordan-Syria border are helping build a headquarters in Jordan to bolster its military capabilities in case violence spills over from Syria, suggesting deepening US military intervention in the Syrian conflict.”

The purpose of attacking Syria is simply to get Iran militarily engaged, because the two countries have a mutual defense pact.

The US's problem with Iran is not its nuclear program, which, under both stringent and consistent IAEA inspection, has not diverted any of its nuclear material from its nuclear energy program to a nuclear weapons program, but Iran's refusal to sell its oil in US petrodollars.

The Sore Losers Of The Syrian Crisis

By Thierry Meyssan

November 02, 2012 "Information Clearing House" - During a recent Round Table in Ankara, Admiral James Winnfeld, Vice-Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, announced that Washington would reveal its intentions toward Syria once the 6 November presidential elections were over. He made it plainly understood to his Turkish counterparts that a peace plan had already been negotiated with Moscow, that Bashar al-Assad would remain in power and that the Security Council would not authorize the creation of buffer zones. For his part, Herve Ladsous, the U.N. Assistant Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations, announced that he was studying the possible deployment of peacekeepers ("blue helmets") in Syria.

All regional actors are preparing for the cease-fire which will be overseen by a U.N. force composed principally by troops of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikstan). These events signify that the United States is effectively continuing a process, begun in Iraq, of retreat from the region and has accepted to share its influence with Russian.

At the same time, the New York Times revealed that direct negotiations between Washington and Iran are slated to restart even as the United States continues its attack on Iranian monetary values. It is becoming clear that, after 33 years of containment, Washington is acknowledging that Teheran is an established regional power, all the while continuing to sabotage its economy.

This new situation comes at the expense of Saudi Arabia, France, Israel, Qatar and Turkey all of whom had placed their bets on regime change in Damascus. This diverse coalition is now suffering divisions between those demanding a consolation prize and those trying to sabotage outright the process underway.

Ankara has already changed its tune. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, previously ready for the worst, is now actively seeking reconciliation with Teheran and Moscow. Several days after insulting the Iranians and harrassing the Russian diplomats in his country, he is now all smiles. He took advantage of the Organization of Economic Cooperation in Baku to approach President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. He proposed a complex framework for discussing the Syrian crisis which would allow Turkey and Saudi Arabia not to be left by the wayside. Careful not to humilate the losers in the conflict, the Iranian president indicated he was open to such an initiative.

As for Qatar, it is already seeking new horizons for its ambitions. Emir Hamad took off on a trip to Gaza, posing as the self-appointed protector of Hamas. He advocates the overthrow of the King of Jordan, the transformation of the Hashemite monarchy into a Palestinian republic and the installation in power of his proteges from the Muslim Brotherhood.

Only Israel and France remain in the opposition camp. The new scheme would offer a guarantee of protection to the state of Israel but it would also alter its special status on the international scene and end its expansionist dreams. Tel-Aviv would be relegated to being a secondary power. France, also, would lose influence in the region, particularly in Lebanon. Accordingly, the intelligence services of both states have concocted an operation to collapse the U.S.-Russia-Iran agreement which, even if it fails, would allow them to erase the traces of their involvement in the Syrian crisis.

France started by circulating the rumor that President Bashar al-Assad sponsored a Hezbollah plan to assassinate five Lebanese leaders: the head of the security forces, the head commander of the Ministry of the Interior, the Grand Mufti, the Maronite Patriarch and former prime minister, Fouad Siniora. Then, Paris took out Michel Samaha, who had served as liaison to the Syrian armed forces but who, having been disgraced in Damascus, was no longer of use. This brilliant and adept politician fell into the trap set for him by General Wassam el-Hassan, head of the Free Syrian Army and himself a liaison with the Salafists. Next, Paris eliminated General Wassam el-Hassan himself, who had not only become useless in the eventual advent of peace in Syria but also dangerous because of what he knew. The French rumor became reality : the number one name on the list of targets is dead and a pro-Syrian figure was arrested as he was preparing an attack on another name on the list.

At the core of these machinations is General Puga. The former Commander of Special Operations and Director of French Military Intelligence was the head of the personal general staff of President Nicolas Sarkozy and has been retained in that post by Francois Hollande. Linked by his unconditional support for the Jewish colonial occupation of Palestine [1] and having close connections to American neoconservatives, he carried forward French colonial policies in the Ivory Coast, Libya and Syria. Bypassing democratic institutions, he determined on his own the direction of French policy in the Middle East, despite his having no official appointment.

For the first time in about 40 years Israel shells Syria.

Israel shells Syrian fighters
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2012/1118/breaking27.html

Israel shelled Syrian fighters after gunfire from the Syrian civil war spilled over to the Israel-controlled Golan Heights, the military said today, as the conflict appeared to inch closer to the Jewish state.

The civil war in Syria has renewed tensions in the Golan Heights, a strategic plateau that Israel captured from Syria in the 1967 war. Despite constant hostility between the two countries, Syria has been careful to keep the border quiet since the 1973 Mideast war.

In recent days Israeli troops have fired into Syria twice, responding to what appeared to be stray mortar shells exploding in Israel-held territory.

Today, an Israeli military spokesman said soldiers fired artillery toward the source of gunfire late last night.

He said the military identified a hit. He did not know whether the targets were Syrian rebels fighting to topple President Bashar Assad or forces loyal to him.

Syrian shells have exploded inside the Israel-held Golan Heights several times in recent weeks, damaging apple orchards, sparking fires and spreading alarm but causing no injuries.

Though the two nations have been bitter enemies, Israel is concerned that if the Assad regime is toppled, Syria could fall into the hands of Islamic extremists.

Meanwhile, French foreign minister Laurent Fabius has said Israel and Hamas are both to blame for the violent clashes in Gaza.

"There are rockets being fired from Gaza and Israel has the right to defend itself, but at the same time there are these deadly Israeli attacks on Gaza," Fabius said today in an interview with France2 television from Tel Aviv. "That's why we need an immediate cease-fire."

Mr Fabius is in the region to meet Israeli and Palestinian Authority leaders, and has also spoken with US secretary of state Hillary Clinton.

Fresh clashes erupted in the West Bank today as Palestinian youths threw rocks at Israeli soldiers, who responded with tear gas.

Anger in the West Bank over what is happening in Gaza has not only been directed at Israel: many also blame the Palestinian Authority for failing to take action over the Gaza offensive and for co-operating with the Israeli security forces against protesters.

Hazem Abu Helal was arrested after joining a protest at the Bet El checkpoint near Ramallah after several female demonstrators were arrested by the Israeli army. “They began shooting a lot of tear gas so I moved back to the City Inn Hotel, which is inside the Palestinian controlled area,” he said.

Abu Helal was detained not by the Israeli army but by Palestinian security forces, who took him to a Ramallah police station for questioning. “They said, ‘You’re making a problem for the [Palestinian Authority]’,” Abu Helal said. “They told me, ‘Go make a demonstration in Ramallah’.”

According to Shawan Jabarin, the director of Al-Haq, a Palestinian human rights group, Palestinian security forces often suppress protests against Israel in the West Bank. “They stop them, arrest them, beat them sometimes,” Mr Jabarin said.

On Sunday, he said, Palestinian security forces prevented protesters from reaching Israel’s Al Jalame checkpoint near Jenin. “The Palestinian police have become a guard for Israel’s interests,” he said.

President Mahmoud Abbas has not been to Gaza since bloody clashes saw his western-backed Fatah movement kicked out of the strip five years ago. Since then the division between the Fatah-dominated Palestinian Authority, which controls the West Bank, and Hamas, which rules Gaza, has created divergent economic, social and political realities.

These differences are being compounded by the war in the Gaza Strip.

Abbas and other West Bank leaders have condemned the Gaza operation, but their lack of action on this latest violence, said Dr Samir Awad, a professor of political science at Birzeit University near Ramallah, is not enough for most Palestinians.

“The Palestinians in the West Bank are not happy to sit here, where they are separated from Gaza,” Dr Awad said. “The Palestinian Authority did not do anything to stop security co-ordination with Israel or even threaten the future of peace talks during this attack on Gaza.”

Chemical Syria rebels: 'Enemies of Allah will die like rabbits'

Link

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yo8TU8catBk

Syria's military is preparing to use chemical weapons against rebels, and is awaiting final orders from President Assad according to un-named US officials quoted in the American media. Washington says THAT would be all the reason it needs to intervene in the conflict. And as RT's Middle East correspondent Paula Slier reports, the timing of these unsubstantiated WMD revelations may not be coincidence.
Also, RT talks to Dr. Ali Mohamad, the editor in chief of the Syria Tribune online magazine.

German intelligence agency tips end for Syrian regime
http://www.dw.de/german-intelligence-agency-tips-end-for-syrian-regime  /a-16439443
Bashar Assad's regime will find itself unable to continue, the head of Germany's foreign intelligence agency said. Syrian authorities have warned that rebels have gained control of a chemical warehouse.
"Armed rebels are co-ordinating better, which is making their fight against Assad more effective," Gerhard Schindler told the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung in an interview made public on Saturday.
"Assad's regime will not survive," Schindler said. "Evidence is mounting that the regime in Damascus is now in its final phase."
Schindler's comments come as Syrian authorities made public a letter to the UN Security Council warning that rebel forces may possess chemical weapons after gaining control of an industrial warehouse where toxic chlorine was reportedly being produced.
"We are seriously afraid that some countries that support terrorism would supply chemical weapons to the terrorist armed groups and claim that the Syrian government is the one that is using them," the letter outlined.
The statement from Syrian authorities came as the United States and Britain expressed fears Assad's regime might use chemical weapons as rebels fight to take Damascus.

Fighters linked with the rebel al-Nousra Front, activists say, have taken control of the Syrian-Saudi Chemicals Company factory close to the town of Safira, east of Aleppo.

Syria's unprecedented unrest
Since March 2011, Syria has been rocked by unprecedented protests aiming to topple the regime. The UN says at least 30,000 people have been killed. Read DW's multimedia coverage and analysis of political unrest in Syria. (05.12.2012)
The ministry insisted in its correspondence with the UN that it would "not use chemical weapons under any circumstance, if they exist."
"Syria is defending its people against terrorism, which is supported by known countries, with the United States at the forefront," it added.
British Foreign Secretary William Hague, speaking from a security conference in Bahrain on Saturday, said there was proof the Syrian government could use its chemical weapon stockpile to quell the revolt in the country.
"We are extremely concerned about the stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and we are also concerned about evidence during the last couple of weeks that the regime could use them," he told reporters.
The option of military intervention in Syria, he added, had not been "ruled out," but he said that Britain would continue to seek a peaceful transition.
On the ground, rebel forces are trying to seize Damascus airport and the main roadway leading to it in an attempt to cut supplies to government troops. The sides have been fighting in the area for more than a week.

excerpt from: Prince Harry could be sent to Syria

by Deborah Sherwood,Daily Star Sunday, 9 December 2012

TOP secret plans are being drawn up to send Prince Harry to take on President Assad’s evil regime in Syrian.

Yesterday Foreign Secretary William Hague revealed there is “some evidence” that Assad is preparing to use chemical weapons.

Harry and his Apache helicopter pilots could be part of a NATO mission to stop him.

“The prince is lined up to help go in and oust Assad with the Apache squad,” said a Whitehall insider.

“Should Britain and the Americans put troops in they will need top cover. The best we have are the Apaches.

“This is all top secret. Assad would go berserk if NATO crossed into Syria.”

Harry, 28, is currently based in Afghanistan helping NATO troops in the war against the Taliban.

Russia arms Syria with powerful ballistic missiles

by Reza Kahlili WND December 09, 2012

Hours after NATO agreed on Tuesday to send Patriot missiles to Turkey because of the crisis in Syria, Russia delivered its first shipment of Iskander missiles to Syria.

The superior Iskander can travel at hypersonic speed of over 1.3 miles per second (Mach 6-7) and has a range of over 280 miles with pinpoint accuracy of destroying targets with its 1,500-pound warhead, a nightmare for any missile defense system.

According to Mashregh, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard media outlet, Russia had warned Turkey not to escalate the situation, but with Turkey’s request for Patriot missiles, it delivered its first shipment of Iskanders to Syria.

Reporting today, Mashregh said the handover occurred when Russian naval logistic vessels docked at Tartus in Syria.

The Iskandar is a surface-to-surface missile that no missile defense system can trace or destroy, Mashregh said. Russia had earlier threatened that should America put its missile defense system in Poland, it would retaliate by placing its Iskander missiles at Kaliningrad, its Baltic Sea port.

Russia’s delivery of Iskanders to Bashar Assad’s embattled regime clearly shows that the security and stability of Syria remains Russia’s red line, Mashregh said. It is unknown how many of these missiles have been delivered but the numbers given are sufficient to destroy any Patriot missiles in Turkey, it said.

The delivery of the missile not only threatens the security of Turkey but also Israel, which would have to recalculate its strategy with its defensive and offensive capabilities.

As reported in a WND exclusive on Dec. 5, Iran’s Islamic regime also sees the toppling of the Assad regime as its red line and has 170 ballistic missiles targeting Tel Aviv in underground missile silos, some with biological warheads.

In August, a commentary in Mashregh, representing the regime’s views, warned America and Israel that further instability in Syria would spark a pre-emptive attack on Israel in which the use of weapons of mass destruction – biological, chemical and even nuclear bombs – won’t be off the table. It stated that certain groups (proxies, such as Hezbollah) have been armed with WMDs and that Israel will be their target.

The Mashregh commentary charged that Israel is one of the conspirators behind the Syrian crisis in order to strategically change the geopolitics of the region and defeat one of the main players in the Islamic world’s “resistance front” (Iran, Syria and Hezbollah). It warned Israel that with the direction it has chosen, “There is a dead end, and the threat of mass killing awaits.”

The Islamic regime in Iran for its part continues to ship arms to Syria via Iraq both by air and ground while its Quds Forces help the Assad regime in killing its own people. To date, over 40,000 people, including many women and children, have died since the Syrian uprising began in March of 2011.

Reports indicate that Assad has decided to use chemical weapons on his own people as a last attempt to save his rule. Speaking in Prague on Monday, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned Syria that the use of chemical weapons would be a red line, indicating that America would retaliate.

Meanwhile, Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has ordered the Guards and its Quds Forces to use all of their capabilities to protect Assad and has threatened war against those helping the rebels in Syria, primarily Saudi Arabia and Turkey, according to a source who had served in the Revolutionary Guards intelligence unit but who has since defected.

The source added that the recent Gaza conflict was a warning to America and Israel that the Islamic regime in Iran can destabilize the region further should the push in Syria continue to topple Assad. The region will witness terrorist attacks, assassinations and incitement for uprisings in countries allied with America as the situation in Syria further deteriorates, the regime has promised, according to the source.

How can you tell when a country is about to get invaded? Listen to the sellout traitor talking heads on television tell you the country has "weapons of mass destruction" or "chemical weapons" and is "about to use them on their own people".. The Gullible American public fell for it once, the media and government assume it will work again, only will it?

Fool me once, shame on you.. It's amazing the American people are not up in arms over this obvious scam taking place in order to coax the masses into supporting yet another war.

The only thing stopping them (the cabal running our country) from invading another sovereign nation, plundering our treasury, and ending our soldiers lives is an uneducated, gullible public they are counting on it.

Obama Follows British Lead
Toward Igniting World War

by Jeffrey Steinberg
http://www.larouchepub.com/other/2012/3950obama_brits_wwiii.html

Dec. 16—British Prime Minister David Cameron continued to play the role of leading provocateur for World War III this week, pressing for the European Union heads of state to end the arms embargo of Syria in order to provide full military support for the Western-backed rebels seeking to overthrow the Bashar al-Assad government. Cameron pressed for EU military aid, and has already declared that Britain is prepared to provide naval and air support to the rebels, which is tantamount to a declaration of war.

At the Dec. 10 EU meeting, Cameron met with strong resistance from a number of heads of state, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Yet, on Dec. 14 the German Bundestag approved the deployment of Patriot missile batteries to southern Turkey.

But on this side of the Atlantic, Her Majesty's Prime Minister had no problems. Cameron's strongest ally continues to be President Barack Obama, who had Defense Secretary Leon Panetta announce Dec. 14 that the U.S. will also deploy Patriot missile batteries to Turkey. Unlike Germany and the Netherlands, where parliamentary approval was obtained, President Obama has once again effectively torn up the U.S. Constitution by deploying American troops (expected to number 400) into combat without getting permission from Congress, as mandated by Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution, which gives Congress the exclusive authority to declare war.

For Obama, Syria is a replay of his flagrant refusal to go to Congress for war authorization during the Libya no-fly zone and air war, which led to the overthrow and assassination of Muammar Qaddafi and the virtual takeover of the country by al-Qaeda terrorist networks bankrolled and supported from Britain and Saudi Arabia.
Black Propaganda

No one in his right mind can buy the line that the deployment of the Patriot batteries to southern Turkey is a purely defensive move to "protect a NATO ally." For the past month, the Western media has been conducting a wartime-style black-propaganda campaign against the Assad government, accusing it of plotting the use of chemical weapons against its own people, and then charging Assad with firing Scud missiles into rebel-held areas near the Turkish border. After a week, even Panetta admitted that there was "evidence" that movements of Syrian chemical-weapons stockpiles had stopped, but the Blair-like lie about the threat of weapons of mass destruction continues.

Claims that the Syrian government had fired Scud missiles was another attempt to provoke intervention. The claims were officially denied by the Assad government, and well-known military analyst Col. Patrick Lang (USA-ret.), former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency's Middle East section, who ran all DIA human intelligence operations, pointed out that photos of the alleged Scud missiles, published in the Murdoch press were not Scuds, but American-made multiple-launch rockets—which Syria does not even possess.

The escalation of wartime propaganda is, in part, aimed at diverting attention from the fact that the armed Syrian opposition, backed by Washington, London, Paris, and Ankara, is dominated by al-Qaeda fighters. Last week, the U.S. State Department placed the Syrian-based al-Qaeda group, the al-Nusra Front, on its list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations, in what was seen widely as an effort to distance Washington from al-Qaeda elements in the Syrian rebel force. The effort backfired when the Western-backed head of the opposition coalition that has been recognized by Washington, London, and Paris as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people, publicly attacked the Obama Administration for classifying al-Nusra as terrorist.

Ahmed Moaz al-Khatib, the new head of the anti-Assad coalition, who met with the EU heads of state at a special meeting over the weekend, and is due to visit Washington in the coming days, vowed to continue to work closely with al-Nusra, and announced he would lobby the Obama Administration to reverse the decision.

Al-Nusra has been identified by the State Department as a direct offshoot of al-Qaeda in Iraq. It is made up predominantly of Syrian and Iraqi jihadists who fought against the American occupation of Iraq for years, and more recently crossed into Syria to fight against Assad. The group is widely admitted to be the only effective fighting force against the Syrian Army, carrying out suicide bombings that have killed top regime officials, and conducting massacres of civilians. In a direct blow to the Obama Administration, demonstrations took place all across Syria Dec. 14, in support of al-Nusra and denouncing the American President.
Determined Opposition

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov strongly denounced the support for the jihadists by NATO countries, and accused the United States and others of violating the very Geneva agreement that they all signed in June 2012, vowing to seek a ceasefire and a political settlement to the Syrian crisis. As Lyndon LaRouche has repeatedly warned for the past year, the real target of the Libya and Syria regime-change invasions has been Russia and China. In a Dec. 8 interview with Russia Today, Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, former chief of staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell, similarly warned that a direct U.S. or NATO intervention into Syria would lead to a conflict with Russia and China, which could lead to general world war. LaRouche has said that any conflict involving the United States, Russia, and China would lead to the use of thermonuclear weapons and possible extinction of the human race in a matter of hours of war.

Wilkerson also warned that the Syrian war is also part of a larger regional showdown against Iran. He noted that some Members of Congress are furious at the fact that Obama brought the nation to war in Libya without Congressional approval, and is now moving toward doing the same thing in Syria, that they are openly discussing impeachment.

University of Illinois Law School professor Francis Boyle, speaking Dec. 9 at a human rights conference in Puerto Rico, also presented a bill of impeachment against Obama, citing his illegal Libya war, his assassinations of at least three American citizens without due process, and the drone killings as violations of the Constitution, and war crimes under the Nuremberg principles and the UN Charter.

The U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff remain adamantly opposed to any military action in Syria by American forces. So far, this has impeded President Obama from taking direct military action against the Assad government to install the al-Qaeda-tainted rebels in power in Damascus. But war-avoidance efforts can only go so far. The only durable war prevention option is the removal of President Obama from office by impeachment

Heard this morning Radio 4 9am
Russia is deeply concerned over reports that Israeli Jets Bomb Syria!

http://www.presstv.ir/detail/2013/01/31/286516/israel-after-wider-conf lict-with-syria-raid/

Israeli raid on Syria meant to ignite conflict desired by West: Tony Cartalucci

Quote:
Israel has conducted airstrikes in Syria based on "suspicions" of chemical weapon transfers, in a flagrant violation of the UN Charter, international law, and in direct violation of Syria's sovereignty. The Guardian in its report titled, "Israel carries out air strike on Syria," claims:

"Israeli warplanes have attacked a target close to the Syrian-Lebanese border following several days of heightened warnings from government officials over Syria's stockpiles of weapons."

It also stated:

"Israel has publicly warned that it would take military action to prevent the Syrian regime's chemical weapons falling into the hands of Hezbollah in Lebanon or ‘global jihadists’ fighting inside Syria. Israeli military intelligence is said to be monitoring the area round the clock via satellite for possible convoys carrying weapons."

In reality, these "global jihaidists" are in fact armed and funded by the US, Saudi Arabia, and Israel since at least as early as 2007. They are also in fact the direct beneficiaries of Israel's recent aggression. The Israeli "suspicions" of "weapon transfers" of course, remain unconfirmed, because the purpose of the attack was not to prevent the transfer of "chemical weapons" to Hezbollah in Lebanon, but to provoke a wider conflict aimed not at Israel's defense, but at salvaging the West's floundering proxy terrorist forces inside Syria attempting to subvert and overthrow the Syrian nation.

The silence from the United Nations is deafening. While Turkey openly harbors foreign terrorists, arming and funding them with Western, Saudi, and Qatari cash as they conduct raids on neighboring Syria, any Syrian attack on Turkish territory would immediately result in the United Nations mobilizing. Conversely, Turkey is allowed, for years, to conduct air strikes and even partial ground invasions of neighboring Iraq to attack Kurdish groups accused of undermining Turkish security. It is clear the same double standard has long applied to Israel.

Israel, along with the US and Saudi Arabia, are Al-Qaeda's chief sponsors.

It must be remembered that as far back as 2007, it was admitted by US, Saudi and Lebanese officials that the US, Israel, and Saudi Arabia were intentionally arming, funding, and organizing these "global jihadists" with direct ties to Al-Qaeda for the explicit purpose of overthrowing the governments of Syria and Iran.

Reported by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh in his New Yorker article, "The Redirection," it was stated (emphasis added):

"To undermine Iran, which is predominantly Shiite, the Bush Administration has decided, in effect, to reconfigure its priorities in the Middle East. In Lebanon, the Administration has cooperated with Saudi Arabia’s government, which is Sunni, in clandestine operations that are intended to weaken Hezbollah, the Shiite organization that is backed by Iran. The U.S. has also taken part in clandestine operations aimed at Iran and its ally Syria. A by-product of these activities has been the bolstering of Sunni extremist groups that espouse a militant vision of Islam and are hostile to America and sympathetic to Al-Qaeda."

Of Israel it specifically stated:

"The policy shift has brought Saudi Arabia and Israel into a new strategic embrace, largely because both countries see Iran as an existential threat. They have been involved in direct talks, and the Saudis, who believe that greater stability in Israel and Palestine will give Iran less leverage in the region, have become more involved in Arab-Israeli negotiations."

Additionally, Saudi Arabian officials mentioned the careful balancing act their nation must play in order to conceal its role in supporting US-Israeli ambitions across the region:

"The Saudi said that, in his country’s view, it was taking a political risk by joining the U.S. in challenging Iran: Bandar is already seen in the Arab world as being too close to the Bush Administration. ‘We have two nightmares,’ the former diplomat told me. ‘For Iran to acquire the bomb and for the United States to attack Iran. I’d rather the Israelis [sic] bomb the Iranians, so we can blame them. If America does it, we will be blamed.’"

It may interest readers to know that while France invades and occupies large swaths of Mali in Africa, accusing the Qataris of funding and arming Al-Qaeda-linked terrorist groups in the region, France, the US, and Israel are working in tandem with the Qataris to fund and arm these very same groups in Syria.

In fact, the US-based think tank the Brookings Institution literally has a "Doha Center" based in Qatar while US-Israeli citizen Haim Saban's Brookings "Saban Center" conducts meetings and has many of its board of directors based likewise in Doha, Qatar. Doha also served as the venue for the creation of the West's most recent "Syrian Coalition," headed by an unabashed supporter of Al-Qaeda, Moaz al-Khatib.

These are part of the brick and mortar manifestation of the conspiracy documented by Seymour Hersh in 2007.

The Wall Street Journal, also in 2007, reported on the US Bush Administration's plans of creating a partnership with Syria's Muslim Brotherhood, noting the group is the ideological inspiration for linked terror organizations including Al-Qaeda itself. In the article titled, "To Check Syria, U.S. Explores Bond With Muslim Brothers," it states:

"On a humid afternoon in late May, about 100 supporters of Syria's largest exile opposition group, the National Salvation Front, gathered outside Damascus's embassy here to protest Syrian President Bashar Assad's rule. The participants shouted anti-Assad slogans and raised banners proclaiming: ‘Change the Regime Now.’

The NSF unites liberal democrats, Kurds, Marxists and former Syrian officials in an effort to transform President Assad's despotic regime. But the Washington protest also connected a pair of more unlikely players -- the U.S. government and the Muslim Brotherhood."

The article would also report:

"U.S. diplomats and politicians have also met with legislators from parties connected to the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan, Egypt and Iraq in recent months to hear their views on democratic reforms in the Middle East, U.S. officials say. Last month, the State Department's intelligence unit organized a conference of Middle East experts to examine the merits of engagement with the Brotherhood, particularly in Egypt and Syria."

It describes the ideological and operational links between the Brotherhood and Al-Qaeda:

"Today, the Brotherhood's relationship to Islamist militancy, and al Qaeda in particular, is the source of much debate. Osama bin Laden and other al Qaeda leaders cite the works of the Brotherhood's late intellectual, Sayyid Qutb, as an inspiration for their crusade against the West and Arab dictators. Members of Egyptian and Syrian Brotherhood arms have also gone on to take senior roles in Mr. bin Laden's movement."

Yet despite all of this, the US, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, along with Israel and Turkey, are openly conspiring with them, and have now for years been arming and funding these very sectarian extremist, terrorist groups across the Arab World, from Libya to Egypt, and now in and around Syria.

Israel's fears of these terrorists acquiring "chemical weapons" is absurd. They have already acquired them with US, NATO, British, Saudi, Qatari and even Israeli help in Libya in 2011. In fact, these very Libyan terrorists are spearheading the foreign militant groups flooding into Syria through the Turkish-Syrian border.

What Israel's strike may really mean

Indeed, Israel's explanation as to why it struck neighboring Syria is tenuous at best considering its long, documented relationship with actually funding and arming the very "global jihaidists" into whose hands it fears weapons may fall. Its fears of Hezbollah are likewise unfounded - had the Syrians, or the Iranians been interested in placing chemical weapons in Lebanon, they would have done so already. Hezbollah has already proven itself capable of defeating Israeli aggression with conventional arms, as demonstrated during the summer of 2006.

In reality, the pressure placed on Syria's borders by both Israel and its partner, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's Turkey in the north, is part of a documented plan to relieve pressure on the Western, Israeli, Saudi-Qatari armed and funded militants operating inside Syria.

The above mentioned, Fortune 500-funded (page 19), US foreign-policy think tank, Brookings Institution - which has blueprinted designs for regime change in Libya as well as both Syria and Iran - stated this specifically in their report titled, "Assessing Options for Regime Change."

Brookings describes how Israeli efforts in the south of Syria, combined with Turkey's aligning of vast amounts of weapons and troops along its border to the north, could help effect violent regime change in Syria:

"In addition, Israel’s intelligence services have a strong knowledge of Syria, as well as assets within the Syrian regime that could be used to subvert the regime’s power base and press for Assad’s removal. Israel could posture forces on or near the Golan Heights and, in so doing, might divert regime forces from suppressing the opposition. This posture may conjure fears in the Assad regime of a multi-front war, particularly if Turkey is willing to do the same on its border and if the Syrian opposition is being fed a steady diet of arms and training. Such a mobilization could perhaps persuade Syria’s military leadership to oust Assad in order to preserve itself. Advocates argue this additional pressure could tip the balance against Assad inside Syria, if other forces were aligned properly." (“Assessing Options for Regime Change,” Brookings Institution, page 6)

Of course, airstrikes inside Syria go beyond "posturing," and indicate perhaps a level of desperation in the West who appears to have elected their chief villain, Israel, to incrementally "intervene" just as they had planned in regards to attacking Iran - also documented by Brookings in a report titled, "Which Path to Persia?"

In regards to Iran, in Brookings' "Which Path to Persia?" report, it states specifically (emphasis added):

"Israel appears to have done extensive planning and practice for such a strike already, and its aircraft are probably already based as close to Iran as possible. As such, Israel might be able to launch the strike in a matter of weeks or even days, depending on what weather and intelligence conditions it felt it needed. Moreover, since Israel would have much less of a need (or even interest) in securing regional support for the operation, Jerusalem probably would feel less motivated to wait for an Iranian provocation before attacking. In short, Israel could move very fast to implement this option if both Israeli and American leaders wanted it to happen.

However, as noted in the previous chapter, the airstrikes themselves are really just the start of this policy. Again, the Iranians would doubtless rebuild their nuclear sites. They would probably retaliate against Israel, and they might retaliate against the United States, too (which might create a pretext for American airstrikes or even an invasion)."(“Which Path to Persia?” Brookings Institution, page 91)

And in this statement we can gather insight behind both Israel's otherwise irrational belligerent posture throughout its brief history, as well as its most recent act of unprovoked aggression against Syria. Israel's role is to play the "bad guy." As a regional beachhead for Western corporate-financier interests, it provides a "foot in the door" to any of the West's many desired conflicts. By bombing Syria, it hopes to provoke a wider conflict - an intervention the West has desired and planned for since it tipped off Syria's violent conflict in 2011.

For Syria and its allies, the goal now must be to deter further Israeli aggression and avoid wider conflict at all costs. If NATO's proxy terrorist forces are as weak as they appear - incapable of tactical or strategic gains, and tapering off into desperate terrorist attacks, it is only a matter of time before NATO's campaign grinds to a halt. As mentioned before, such a failure on NATO's part will be the beginning of the end for it, and the Western interests that have been using it as a tool to achieve geopolitical hegemony.

Israel should be expected to commit to increasingly desperate acts to provoke Syria and Iran - as the Israeli leadership represent directly corporate-financier interests abroad, not the Israeli people, or their best interests (including peace and even survival). For the people of Israel, they must realize that their leadership indeed does not represent them or their best interests and is able, willing, and even eager to spend their lives and fortunes in the service of foreign, corporate-financier interests and global hegemony.

A message posted on a jihadist website on Sunday promised that “terrible” attacks will soon strike the US, France, Denmark and other European countries.

“Where will the next strike by Al-Qaeda be?” a message on the Ansar al-Mujahidin network read, followed by: “The house of disbelief: America, France, Denmark and other countries in Europe, and in the countries that helped and help France and other places.”

The message threatened attacks that will be “strong, serious, alarming, earth-shattering and terrible,” which will be carried out both collectively and individually.

The post also singled out France, telling the country to prepare for a “long war of attrition.”

The threats against France may be connected to the French military’s recent operation in Mali against pro-Al-Qaeda militants.

The commentators on the forum praised the message, and said they hoped to “hear the news of these strikes soon.”

The Ansar al-Mujahidin network is a well-known jihadist forum that has previously published messages affiliated with Al-Qaeda and its supporters. In April 2012, the NYPD launched an investigation into a 3-D image posted on the forum that said Al-Qaeda would soon return to New York City.

LAST UPDATE
Syria’s state television says the Israeli regime is deploying military forces on the Syrian border.

The move comes a day after an Israeli airstrike reportedly targeted a defense research center near the Syrian capital city of Damascus, killing two people and injuring five others.

On Thursday, Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah strongly condemned the Israeli regime’s aerial assault on its neighboring Arab country, describing it as a “barbaric aggression.”

Russia also voiced concerns about the incident earlier on Thursday, saying, “If this information is confirmed, then we are dealing with unprovoked strikes against targets located on the territory of a sovereign state, which brazenly infringes on the UN Charter and is unacceptable, no matter the motive used for its justification.”

Galloway questions Cameron, to no avail:

George Galloway (Bradford West, Respect)

Following yesterday’s announcement, will the Prime Minister adumbrate for the House the key differences between the hand-chopping, throat-cutting jihadists fighting the dictatorship in Mali whom we are now to help to kill, and the equally bloodthirsty jihadists to whom we are giving money, matériel and political and diplomatic support in Syria? Has the Prime Minister read “Frankenstein”, and did he read it to the end?

Some things come and go but there is one thing that is certain: wherever there is a brutal Arab dictator in the world, he will have the support of the hon. Gentleman. [Interruption.]

A suicide bomber has reportedly struck the US Embassy in Ankara, local media reports. Several people have reportedly been injured, as dozens of ambulances and firefighters have been dispatched to the site.

Initial reports say the blast occurred near the gates of the visa section of the embassy compound. Security has been tightened around the embassy as there are fears that a second bomb could be detonated.

US ‘backed plan to launch chemical weapon attack on Syria, blame it on Assad govt’: Report

Posted by News Desk on January 30, 2013 in News, Sourced, Wired, World · 0 Comments

London, Jan 30 (ANI): The Obama administration gave green signal to a chemical weapons attack plan in Syria that could be blamed on President Bashar al Assad’s regime and in turn, spur international military action in the devastated country, leaked documents have shown.

A new report, that contains an email exchange between two senior officials at British-based contractor Britam Defence, showed a scheme ‘approved by Washington’.

As per the scheme ‘Qatar would fund rebel forces in Syria to use chemical weapons,’ the Daily Mail reports.

Barack Obama made it clear to Syrian president Bashar al-Assad last month that the U.S. would not tolerate Syria using chemical weapons against its own people.

According to Infowars.com, the December 25 email was sent from Britam’s Business Development Director David Goulding to company founder Philip Doughty.

The emails were released by a Malaysian hacker who also obtained senior executives resumes and copies of passports via an unprotected company server, according to Cyber War News.

According to the paper, the U.S. State Department has declined to comment on the matter. (ANI)
