Risk and Network Threat Forum

Acumin have been running the monthly RANT (The Risk and Network Threat) Forum since 2007. RANT is an end user only, informal networking event for senior professionals working within the Information Security and Risk Management market. Each month a different speaker is appointed to kick-start the event, openly discussing a hot topic, in which the audience are encouraged to pitch in with their opinions and suggestions. The evening always provides plenty of networking opportunities with like minded individuals and a light hearted debate. Complementary refreshments are always provided throughout the evening.

Should you wish to apply for a place at the next RANT Event, or for general event enquiries or sponsorship opportunities, please contact Gemma Paterson, Marketing Manager on +44 (0)20 7510 9041 or email us

NEXT RANT EVENT - Wednesday 25th April 2012 5:30pm

LOCATION - The Prince of Teck, 161 Earls Court Road, London, SW5 9RQ

SPEAKER - Alan Stockey, Institute of Information Security Professionals

TOPIC - "Cookie - Doh...." With the May 2012 deadline pending for achieving compliance with the regulations on Privacy and Electronic Communications (PEC), many organisations are only now getting to grips with the details and compliance implications. Also, whilst media focus seems to be centering on Cookies, the technical challenge is certainly wider and embraces any web browser delivered technologies which have the capability to harvest consumer behaviour and personal preference.

Alan's RANT will deliver a brief history lesson; practical illustration of the challenges; demonstration, and a personal view of where these regulations are intended to take us.

Followed by:

Live Demo - Exploiting Security Gateways via the Web UI - Ben Williams, NCC Group

The demo is a summary of some research which has found and reported over 40 exploits in popular Security Gateways (22 of these have now been patched by the respective vendors).

'Come and see the violence inherent in the system.
Help, help, I'm being repressed!'

“The more you tighten your grip, the more Star Systems will slip through your fingers.”
