Bin Laden weighs in on Danish cartoons?

New 'bin Laden tape' threatens EU

If confirmed, it will be bin Laden's first message since last November
In a new audio message purportedly from Osama bin Laden, the al-Qaeda leader threatens the EU over the re-printing of cartoons offensive to Muslims.

The taped message appeared on a Islamist website with a still image of bin Laden holding an AK-47.

The voice on it says the cartoons, re-published recently in Danish and other newspapers, were part of a crusade involving Pope Benedict XVI.

The voice has not yet been verified as belonging to bin Laden.

The message comes on the fifth anniversary of the US-led invasion of Iraq.

Last month, Denmark's leading newspapers reprinted cartoons that first angered many Muslims when they were originally published in 2006.

One of the drawings shows the Prophet Muhammad with a bomb in his turban.

The message says the attacks of Europeans on women and children "paled [in comparison] when you went overboard in your unbelief and... went to the extent of publishing these insulting drawings.

"This is the greatest misfortune and the most dangerous," the voice says.

The poor guy was dying of kidney failure last I heard of him.

Can we verify that voice?
Or was it synthesised from old recordings of him?
I notice the ridiculous videos of him have ceased now, wonder why?

I suppose this stupid myth has to be perpetuated.

The boogeyman speaks from the 'other side'; odd how 'Osama's' messages get all over the media when they suit the Neo-Cons, whereas when there was no doubt of their veracity (as when he categorically denied having anything to do with 9/11, just days after the event) the US told western media not to report it, in case it contained 'coded messages to his (OBL's) agents'.

I think the videos are a really interesting subject.

The CIA must surely have produced a least one fake OBL video by now, if only to muddy the waters.

The question is - which?

Has anyone done any serious research on each one that has appeared?

As far as I am concerned, his name may as well be Emmanuel bin Goldstein.

It would take a *lot* of evidence to make me believe that the real OBL is still alive and running AQ.
