We Are Change UK activists attended the Notting Hill Carnival to hand out flyers and talk to some of the carnival goers about 9/11.
Sadly the day quickly descended into the murky territory of a foetal police state, kicking in the womb of the UK, and race profiling.

Abuse of laws..
Fascinating to see the apparent abuse of applicable laws. The police were suggesting that the film crew "might be terrorists", then searching one of them quoting section 60 Criminal Justice Act, which seems to only cover suspicion of violent incidents about to happen, see http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts1994/uk ... 40033_en_7 (section 60 is near the bottom of the page). So their search should have been confined to looking for guns, blades and other sharp objects, not reading cards and information inside wallets.
If they were truly suspecting the film crew of being "terrorists", surely their legal power is contained in s44 of the Terrorism Act 2000? See http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts2000/uk ... 00011_en_5 which has to be authorised at Commander level.
It raises the question as to whether or not a Commander authorised this, especially as the plods were quoting a 'violent incident' law. Sections 45(5) and (6) of the TA2003 or s60(10) CJA1994 grants the right to someone who is stopped and searched to obtain a written statement from the police, providing that the application for one is made within 12 months of the search. Would be interesting to find out which reason was being used, and whether or not a Commander had issued such an authorisation (for a search of suspect terrorists).
