This one is supremely brilliant:

I have small children but will be happy to carry minimum belongings in a clear bag as hand luggage in future. However, airlines need to be less greedy and provide free water on board, soft drinks and snacks for children and free headphones to provide entertainment. They could also supply nappies/wipes and essential toiletries.

One question: do those travelling first class have the same restrictions on luggage?

Hand luggage has been going through x-ray security checks for as long as I can recall, luggage for the hold won’t be treated any differently. This is just for show, it’s window dressing that only serves to keep us scared and the more we are scared the more the government can play its “We are strong on terrorism” angle. But this posturing can only lead to a serious weakening of our civil liberties; Stop & Search anyone? Armed Police anyone? Shoot to kill anyone? Tanks on the streets anyone?

I've had the radio on all morning and it seems, from the callers, that there is a great deal doubt over the authenticity of the threat. Most other callers criticise US/UK forien policy. I haven't heard one caller support the security services/government unequivically.

There are a great number of commentators to reasure us that we really are under an 'Unimaginable' threat who are required to force back joe publics instinct for truth.

They are concentrating on the lock up garages but as yet have found nothing.

If the world situation wasn't so serious, these statements would be laughable. Because what Reid is saying is true, but its not the supposed 'anti-terror critics' who have and continue to put national security at risk, but Blair and his government - Reid himself.

There seems to be a concerted effort to play down Chertoff's earlier statement about Al Qaeeda.

SKY: Maybe Chertoff has more freedom top speak about these things as he is outside of the British judicial system
