The trouble with people

Yesterday, at work, I was burning a lot of rubbish in a steel barrel (I'm sure you can sense where this is about to go...) and somehow my colleague started talking about how the barrel would begin to melt soon. Now we're only burning wood and paper nothing silly, so I questioned his reasoning. His answer was simple "Look at the twin towers.."

I nearly screamed !!

I didn't tell him I had already researched the subject instead I just tried to explain that steel doesn't melt at the temperature of kerosene or wood or paper. But he wasn't having any of it and said that for the buildings to collapse the steel only had to weaken. I tried to explain the case using this websites research, which I find explains the whole thing pretty succinctly.

Again he just refused to understand. Or maybe he couldn't understand?

When I think that the world is made up of people like him, that don't care/don't see/don't understand I could almost cry at the hoplessness of the whole situation. Nothing will change and we'll be forever cast as the weirdo conspiracy freaks... The silly thing is I didn't even touch any of the ideas that are floating around, just basic information that cannot be refuted but because the BBC never said it, it can't possibly be true...

Apologies for the mini rant but this has been on my brain since yesterday.

Mind you when you consider this happened to me last week.

Feeling peckish, I emptied a can of soup into a saucepan, put it on the hob and lit the gas.

I went back after five minutes and found the entire cooker had dissolved into a molten mass of liquid steel, aluminium, plastic and glass.

When the fire brigade were leaving the chief turned around to me and said:

Next time, try reading the manuals that come with your saucepans and cooker you idiot.

Feeling rather stupid I checked the manuals.

They both said: never, ever turn the gas above regulo 2 unless you want to see molten steel flowing in your kitchen.

Why don't they tell us this stuff in the first place ?

Remember that was molten aluminium from the plane that was flowing from the south tower.

It just looked red since there was burning wood, paper and computers mixed in with it.

Just watch this GIF carefully and you will notice quite a few burning computers. Not.

but because the BBC never said it, it can't possibly be true...

Try this, if your friend has any imagination, ask him / her to imagine a different scenario for a moment, turn the whole thing on it's head, let's say the official line is that the towers were brought down by CD, ask ur friend if he would have had any difficulty believing this given that the footage of all 3 towers coming down ' looks ' like CD, and all the news channels are stating the same. Assuming he could, not doing would make him a conspiracy theorist, you can then tell him that this demonstrates how his present view then must be totally dictated by what he's been told and not by anything he has seen in terms of footage etc....when you start seeing smoke coming out of his ears you know your getting somewhere.

Banging on about evidence and physical impossibilities just doesn't work with some people.
