Street Lamp bugs to pinpoint gun gangs
Mar 5 2008 by Ben Rossington, Liverpool Echo

POLICE want to hide microphones on city lampposts to beat gun gangs.

The hi-tech listening devices are so sophisticated they pinpoint the location of a shot to within 25 feet.

They immediately trigger an alarm in the police control room. The bugs are fine-tuned so they can distinguish between a real shot and a car backfiring or a firework.

They are set up to listen only for gunshots and cannot be used to eavesdrop on conversations. (oh yeah my a**e)

Some 24 microphones will cover a square mile.

The technology is so good it can pick up gunshots from up to two miles away.

If police officials give the go-ahead for the system it will be installed only in areas blighted by gun crime, rather than as standard right across Merseyside.

But police will have the option to move them around.

Head of the anti-gun, anti-gang Matrix squad, detective chief superintendent Stephen Moore, said: “This technology can automatically tell when a firearm has been discharged.

“Within a split second we will have a grid reference on where that shot was fired accurate to within 25 feet.

“We will know when a gun has been fired before the finger has even been relaxed on the trigger.”

The system is similar to one already being used across the US. Shotspotter protects more than 500,000 people across 27 American cities.

In December alone it picked up an average 40 shots per night. (obviously not a deterrant then)

In its first year in Arizona the device detected 80% more gunfire than was reported by the public.

Shotspotter was also introduced in Washington when the city was gripped by fear after random sniper attacks in October 2002.

Ten people were killed and three others injured but the FBI gained vital evidence through using the system.

When five rival Sentri systems, based on a similar format but also using CCTV cameras, were installed in Chicago, it led to its lowest number of murders since 1965 and 80 more were installed

They have just installed similar technology in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania... and the people I am working with there have the same "my a**e" attitude re: the idea that a mic that can pick up a gunshot from 2 mi is not also picking up conversations and God knows what else.

For some reason the first thing I picture is a gaggle of cops sitting around entertaining themselves by listening in on two lovers on a date, or getting it on in their car or apt. that is within mic range.

can they distinguish between a movie gunshot and a game gunshot and a real gunshot?

that is the question. its alright picking up gunshot noises via technology, but can it work out its just a guy playing halo on a handheld, or watching tv.

whatever, this seems more like big brother being sold as safty for the public. we all know it will not just be picking up gunshots, it will be listening to every noise including conversations.

Occasionally I like to wander about my apartment saying things like "F**k You if your list'ning in" and "You are the real terrorists, dont you get it yet?". Am I mad? Yeah, mad as hell.

They've been using the phone system for surveillance for decades, it wasn't enough. Then they started using mobile phone for surveillance, it wasn't enough. Now bugs on the lamposts...? Will this be enough?

No.

No - next up, a chip in your a** to report on changes in your BP and electrical properties. Every step you take... Every move you make... Every breath you take...

Oh, it's already much worse than microphones up your a**e! Check out the list of patents (devices with demonstrable prototypes) at the bottom of the page http://www.jacobsm.com/mumcw_jw.html

Not only can they know what you are thinking, but they can also induce you to think and feel things they want you to! Unless you can adopt a 5-dimensional reality now, they will use science to bring down your 3-dimensional reality to their level. With a 5-dimensional reality, you can subvert the operation of all such "devices" by setting up personal protective fields using the power of imagination alone. With this power, anything can be "thought up" to stop these 3d-reality-fixated morons who believe the human mind can explain everything in the universe using science. In fact, with pure imagination and consciousness, you can create your own reality! Let's start doing this now.

All the more reason to encourage my dog to c*** his leg against lamposts!
