UK 911 Forum II - Respect Culture Proposal

Post by Pikey »

I had a dream
1. Always treat people as you wish to be treated yourself.
2. Respect for moderators and the website, abslolutely no mind games with moderators.
3. Always be polite with your e-mails and PMs - even if you disagree vehemently.
4. If making a 'new post' take the time to make sure it hasn't already been posted using the site's search facility and be sure to put it in the correct section.
5. A degree of humility is not a bad thing – leave your egos at home.
6. Always keep a sense of humour – a shared laugh defuses all sorts of situations.
7. Embrace the philosophy of non-violence and peaceful protest.
8. Don't post PMs or other private communications on the forum unless in exceptional circumstances.
9. Do your utmost not to go public with personal issues and then only after making attempts to resolve issues one-to-one.
10. Pervade a Spirit of Goodwill at all times – always try to be positive in the face of adversity.
11. React and respond quickly to approaches made by people as well as events and don't be put off by failure.
12. Look out for one another – a 'well done' goes a long way.
13. No consistent posting of inappropriate trivia and questions which can easily be answered using a search engine.
We would make a lot faster progress if this culture became reality on this site. Could our clever IT techies set this to come on as soon as anyone commences inputting info/messages/opinions on the site?

I'm in a difficult position.

I would very much like to implement these rules (on my own forum I do) but as the wider control of the forum is by no means clear I see them more as guidelines.

If there's a consensus to get them implemented now that's fine by me and we'll do it. Suspending and banning transgressors rather than sending them gentle warnings.

Tony, Pikey's guidelines don't recommend "Suspending and banning transgressors rather than sending them gentle warnings". You've added that.
but as the wider control of the forum is by no means clear I see them more as guidelines.
Exactly right, such radical changes should be put to the National Committee first for their endorsement as there is no fair way of gauging people's opinions online. Suspension and banning even without a warning is draconian.

No it isn't Rory when people have signed up to the rules when they register.

One person posted death threats against me - he was banned immediately - no warning.

Anyway I'm not being drawn in on this I'll leave readers to work out for themselves what you're trying to construe here.

Quite right, too. You should have reported it to the Police. That's exceptional & quite intolerable. But otherwise I would endorse Ian Neal's suggestions regarding disciplinary action.

We seem to have been drawn away into irellevancies after Pikey's very positive proposal to do with maximising the productiveness of discussions here.

There is way too much 'poisoning' of various useful and productive wells of discusion by people who don't want that discussion to take place and that we have to gently squeeze out together.

There is alot of antagonism and flaming done on this site usually by the usual culprits. Its a minority problem though imo.

If any posts dont comply with this excellent forum policy thens its up to our pro active and assertive moderators to issue the non compliance notification and the appropriate card...........yellow, red or yellow followed by red.

No offsides on here though!

BREAK THE RULES! There's to much gatekeeping and underhand sh*t going on. Other wise we will never progress. Why do human beings need rules anaway?

Civilised Dialogue not Dysfunctional Demonising will get results everytime

I hope that people will read our Scottish Group thread and take note of how something can be discussed in an intelligent & civilised manner. The Truth Movement needs to quickly shed any yahoo image it may have got as a result of certain precedents.

I would like to see 911 Truth setting an example to the rest of the country of what can be done with a modicum of mutual goodwill from all sides. And I mean all sides!

Please see my further observations on this at http://www.nineeleven.co.uk/board/viewt ... 173#114173

The rules are there for a reason dudes. Mainly to make sure that our discussions here are accessible to as wide an audience as possible. They evolve with the times and I added a new one last week prohibiting discussion of the Holocaust because liberal approach here was being used as a stick to beat the whole 911 Truth movement with.

The rules mean keeping it to the practical and intellectual issues involved and as far as possible from the sort of rudeness and swearing. The same rules you'd have to adhere to in a public debating forum.

When people get abusive then they are effecively 'pissing in the pot from which we all have to drink'.

If anyone wants to offload anger, frustration or other baggage there are plenty of other places to do it and I hope we've created a culture here where when people do go over the top they will be told where to go and if they persist they will be banished.
