The 60th Bilderberg Meeting will be held in Chantilly, Virginia, USA from 31 May – 3 June 2012. The Conference will deal mainly with political, economic and societal issues like Transatlantic Relations, Evolution of the Political Landscape in Europe and the US, Austerity and Growth in Developed Economies, Cyber Security, Energy Challenges, the Future of Democracy, Russia, China and the Middle East.
Approximately 145 participants will attend of whom about two-thirds come from Europe and the balance from North America and other countries. About one-third is from government and politics, and two-thirds are from finance, industry, labor, education, and communications. The meeting is private in order to encourage frank and open discussion.
Bilderberg takes its name from the hotel in Holland, where the first meeting took place in May 1954. That pioneering meeting grew out of the concern expressed by leading citizens on both sides of the Atlantic that Western Europe and North America were not working together as closely as they should on common problems of critical importance. It was felt that regular, off-the-record discussions would help create a better understanding of the complex forces and major trends affecting Western nations in the difficult post-war period.
The Cold War has now ended. But in practically all respects there are more, not fewer, common problems – from trade to jobs, from monetary policy to investment, from ecological challenges to the task of promoting international security. It is hard to think of any major issue in either Europe or North America whose unilateral solution would not have repercussions for the other.
Thus the concept of a European-American forum has not been overtaken by time. The dialogue between these two regions is still – even increasingly – critical.
What is unique about Bilderberg as a forum is the broad cross-section of leading citizens that are assembled for nearly three days of informal and off-the-record discussion about topics of current concern especially in the fields of foreign affairs and the international economy; the strong feeling among participants that in view of the differing attitudes and experiences of the Western nations, there remains a clear need to further develop an understanding in which these concerns can be accommodated; the privacy of the meetings, which has no purpose other than to allow participants to speak their minds openly and freely.

Bilderberg 2012: the technocrats are rising at this year's annual conference

Our man at Bilderberg is back for a fourth year and has touched down in Chantilly for the 2012 gathering. The shadowy elite leaders' conference starts tomorrow, so what's on the agenda?

It's all change at Bilderberg this year, with a new chairman, new media and Occupy Bilderberg knocking at the gates.
Everything's set. The hotel is being primped and hoovered, the security is arriving, the press is nowhere to be seen, and I just had a really boring crab salad. It's shaping up to be a vintage Bilderberg.
We were lunching in the Palm Court restaurant of the Westfields Marriott hotel, in Chantilly, Virginia. A few days from now, this hotel will be dripping with billionaires and bankers, industry CEOs and finance ministers, here for the annual Bilderberg summit. "The leaders of the world are coming to our hotel", beams one member of staff. "Are you here for the brunch?"
We are. Most of the other guests have left by now. The hotel is edging towards lockdown. All that's left is a team of nervy conference organizer who start filming us with their iPhones, several dozen security operatives, me, my wife and a really rather boring 'spook', brunching on an adjacent table.
He droned on for the full length of a crab salad about his "internal and external drivers", about how "I got a panel of three-star admirals together" to secure a "$30m contract" and how "CACI excels in capture management".
He talked fondly of CACI International Inc (a giant defense contractor), although more recently he's had "a nice success rate with Booz Allen" (another giant defense contractor). His world was the deathly dull blur between the federal government and private defense corporations. The grim feeding trough of "systems solutions", "security logistics" and "mission assurance". My crab ended just as he was declaring, wisely: "When you leave the navy and you go to a contractor, you say: what's my mission?"
His mission for the next week or so is to keep the queen of the Netherlands, the chairman of Barclays, and the chairman, vice-chairman and CEO of Shell Oil safe and sound for a three-day conference. The hotel is encircled by the offices of the world's largest arms' manufacturers, 15 minutes up the road from the headquarters of the CIA. I suspect they'll be OK.

The Bilderberg conference was last here in Chantilly, at the exact same godforsaken spot, back in 2008 – which, like 2012, was a US election year, and the moment the current economic woes really started hitting the fan. You might remember, it was the year when then-senators Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton paid a flying visit to Bilderberg (aka 'an event in northern Virginia'), after shaking off the press pack during the Democratic presidential campaign. AP had the story:
"Reporters travelling with Obama sensed something might be happening between the pair might when they arrived at Dulles International Airport after an event in northern Virginia and Obama was not aboard the airplane."
You can watch the hilarious footage of Robert Gibbs, Obama's press secretary, trying (and failing) to placate a furious press corp, who found themselves tricked aboard a flight to Chicago. "Others had a desire to meet with him in a private way," he explains. This is an extraordinary admission from Gibbs – "others" clicked their fingers, and Obama came running, with Hillary in tow.
Bill Clinton was introduced to the political big league at Bilderberg 1991. The man who introduced him was Vernon Jackson, a lawyer, civil rights activist and currently board member of Lazard investment bank. Speaking last year about the occasion, Jackson recalls:
"In 1991, I took Bill Clinton to the Bilderberg meetings in Baden Baden, Germany. Bilderberg meetings have been going on since 1954, sort of the North-American / European Alliance."
Later, after Clinton won the election:
"The steering committee of Bilderberg came to Washington in January, and I called the president up and I said 'Mr President, they're here' – and he came to the Four Seasons hotel, and the Europeans felt like they owned him because they met him when he was totally unknown."
That's interesting: a meeting of the Bilderberg steering committee at the Four Seasons in Washington? In January? But according to Bilderberg's official website, "Bilderberg's only activity is its annual conference".
As for this year's election, rumours are already circulating about Bilderberg and presidential running mates, sparked off by a Washington Post report back in April on the matter of Republican senator Marco Rubio's speech at the Summit of the Americas:
"[John] Edwards gave a speech in June 2004 at the Bilderberg conference that was widely credited as one reason John Kerry chose him."
Aside from the US presidency, the big debate of Bilderberg 2012 is likely to be: what in Hades do we do about Greece? The Eurozone is Bilderberg's biggest project, but it's been looking distinctly shaky of late. What's to be done? You can feel the unwillingness of Bilderberg to countenance a 'Grexit' in the stern words of Bilderberg spokesperson, the UK member of parliament for Rushcliffe, Kenneth Clarke. To leave the Euro, says Clarke, would be "disastrous" for the Greeks. "If they get a hopeless lot of rather cranky extremists elected at the next election then they will default on their debt." Clarke took the time to brand eurosceptic British MPs "right-wing nationalists", and euroscepticism itself "irresponsible".
Clarke's most telling remark is that: "It's going to take a crisis, an absolute crisis, to make Europe's leaders act." This week's Economist magazine agrees: "For the past six decades, steps forward to greater European union have taken place at moments of incipient crisis."
"A consensus is slowly emerging that, whether a Greek exit is to be averted or weathered, there will have to be a greater level of integration in the euro zone, with tighter constraints on the freedom of national governments."
This message, that out of the struggle will come a new strength, seems to be the Bilderbergian line. For example, EU Commissioner Joaquin Almunia (whom we spotted at Bilderberg 2010) says we need now to "reinforce the European Parliament's role" which "will also strengthen the role of the [EU] Commission". So his solution to the crisis: "I need a bigger office."
The Economist says that if the "elite venture" of Europe is to survive and thrive, "Europe's elites" have got their work cut out. It ventures to give the elites some "unashamedly technocratic" advice on how to forge their closer union, but it needn't worry, the technocrats of Bilderberg seems to have the matter in hand. Mario Monti (unelected Italian PM, Bilderberg steering committee) said this week: "Europe can have euro bonds soon."
But we're not in Europe now, we're in Chantilly, and the CIA is just up the road from the conference venue, so protestors had better stay on their best behaviour. And we're expecting plenty of them – gathering under the activist umbrella: "Occupy Bilderberg"
What a difference a year makes. Occupy Bilderberg? I love it. The Occupy movement seems finally to have realised that the problem isn't the 1%, it's the 0.001%. It's the guys and gals and whatever David Rockefeller is who are meeting in Chantilly, Virginia, at the end of the week. Many hundreds of protestors have pledged to show up. And who knows, they may just manage to drag the mainstream news media with them.
Historically, one of the biggest problems people have had with Occupy is that its aims and demands have been a little, shall we say, "diffuse". Not the case with Occupy Bilderberg. That's the nail getting hit squarely on the head. Occupy Bilderberg is keyhole activism. Picking the exact right spot and sticking the scissors in.
"We refuse to pay for the banks' crisis" was the cry from OccupyLSX back in the autumn. They demanded an end to "our democracy representing corporations instead of the people." What Bilderberg represents is the fact that our democracy IS our corporations. And politics is just the wake behind a shark fin.
Time to go fishing.


'Machine gun nests and unprecedented security' for secretive Bilderberg meeting of captains of industry and government leaders

The Bilderberg Group, a collection of top captains of industry and western government leaders, is gathering for its annual meeting this weekend under unprecedented security.
Reports from the Mariott Westfields Hotel in Chantilly, Virginia, indicate security officials have set up machine gun nests and are deploying satellite surveillance and other sophisticated monitoring equipment to keep guests safe.
Conspiracy theorists say the closed-door, invitation-only gatherings of 150 of the most powerful people in North America and Western Europe are ground zero for the New World Order, the place where the influential collude to steer the course of human history.
This year, 1,000 people are signed for an 'Occupy Bilderberg' protest, which is spurring the extra-tight security, according to right-wing journalist and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.
As Guardian columnist Charlie Skelton puts it, Bilderberg isn't about the 1 percent -- it's the 0.001 percent.
Among the attendees of recent meetings are: Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, World Bank president Robert Zoellick, European Commission head José Manuel Barroso, Queen Sofia of Spain and Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.
The steering committee members include Marcus Agius, the chairman of Barclays; Mario Monte, the Italian Prime Minister; Craig Mundie, the Chief Research Officer for Microsoft; Peter Thiel, one of the venture capitalists behind Facebook; Kenneth Clarke, the British Secretary of Justice; and Jorma Ollila, the chairman of Royal Dutch Shell.

David Rockefeller is a key adviser.
Conspiracy theorists are floating the notion that members will 'anoint' Florida Sen Marco Rubio to become vice president on Mitt Romney's Republican ticket this year.
Bilderberg members say their meetings are simply gatherings of important people who come together to discuss the world's problems.
The Greek debt crisis and instability in the Eurozone are top considerations this year.
However, Mr Jones, a radio talk show host who runs a popular news website, reports that pressure from the occupy movement has organizers stepping up security.
Guests who had made reservations at the posh hotel in suburban Washington, DC, are being refunded and refused access.
One guest who was being kicked out of the hotel to make room for the Bilderberg conference claimed she saw machine gun nests being set up to guard against the protestors, Mr Jones claims.
He also claims that security officials are using sophisticated surveillance technology to tap the phones of protestors. Skelton, of the Guardian, says he witnessed hotel security staffers using iPhones to record anyone they saw in the hotel in the run-up to the conference.

Justice Secretary Ken Clarke and former business secretary Peter Mandelson weren’t the only Britons who attended the Bilderberg conference — along with leading international politicians and industrialists — in Chantilly, Virginia.
The BBC had a man there, too, at the weekend: Marcus Agius, senior independent director of the BBC’s executive board.
Agius, who is married to Katherine Rothschild and earns a £750,000 salary in his day job as chairman of Barclays Bank, is paid £47,000 by the BBC for 28 days’ work per year, principally advising the BBC Trust, which represents the interests of licence-fee payers.
This might explain why the corporation did not report on the event this year.
*BBC insiders say the much- maligned coverage of the Jubilee river pageant might have implications for the internal applicants hoping to succeed Mark Thompson as director-general. Among those whose cards may be marked are George Entwistle, the corporation’s BBC head of vision, and Helen Boaden, head of news. Which is good news for another internal candidate Caroline Thomson, the chief operating officer, who is not strictly involved with programming so is untainted by what has been dubbed “the Fearne fiasco”.

Ken Clarke was the last man out. I'm not surprised he was late up. Britain's lord chancellor had the beery sheen and aspirin eyes of a man who'd found the closing banquet of Bilderberg 2012 more than usually chillaxing. He looks like he's been pulled through a hedge fund backwards. I'm not even sure he's wearing trousers.
Poor Ken. It can't be easy for him, trying to reconcile being an MP, the minister for justice and a member of Bilderberg's steering committee. Imagine having interests so conflicted. No wonder if he's got a sweat on. Plus, he's trying his best to champion transparency, trumpeting it as "the most effective public inoculation against corruption that any country can have", while refusing to talk about the Bilderberg conference or any of the steering committee meetings.
Back in 1994, Clarke thundered in parliament about "the desirability of greater transparency of decisions on monetary policy", but these days he's having to thrash it out in private with the heads of the major banks. What a nightmare.
Another tired face belonged to Bassma Kodmani, the head of foreign affairs for the Turkey-based Syrian National Council.

She looks a sad little puppet. I'd have thought she'd look happier, having had the hawks of Bilderberg cluck around her for the weekend, planning her new country. It's no wonder they've taken Bassma under their wing. After all, she spent seven years at the Ford Foundation. She's "one of them".
Happier than Bassma is Karen Field, a satisfied protester from Baltimore. She befriended an insider from the venue and came away with the hot gossip from the conference. A great deal of heavy flirting and some awkward lip dodging earned her this admission: "We had a load of the hotel staff gathered round a computer in the back office, watching Alex Jones – and they're all rooting for him." Grinning through gritted teeth at the banksters. It makes you wonder what ended up in the soup. No wonder Ken looks queasy.
As for the conference: "He told me that they don't just all sit together in a big room – which is what I always thought – but they have tons of separate rooms and they split up for the meetings. The first ones are after 4.30 on Thursday." Between meetings, says Karen's source, all the delegates talk about is "money, just money". The source told her: "They don't tip, although four years ago he got $20 from Henry Kissinger's aide. This year, no one got anything." Fair enough, there's a recession on.
Four years ago, Bilderberg was here at this same hotel. And according to Karen's leak: "In 2008 Queen Beatrix got the penthouse suite. This year, Kissinger got it." What better reward for a distinguished old man accused by some of war crimes?
Karen's flirty staffer is the biggest Bilderberg leak in a long while. I picked up a couple of smaller tidbits myself. I was helping a cop move a security cordon near some trees, when he lowered his voice and casually let slip: "We don't support Bilderberg, trust me." And there's what a hotel employee told me as he drove through the gates of the hotel. He lowered his window and beckoned me over. "I want you to know that they call you people 'cockroaches'. I work in the hotel and they asked me if those cockroaches were still out there. They meant you."
That's nice. A nearby live-streamer, Sky Adams, laughed when I told him, and said: "Well, at least cockroaches are indestructible. They keep coming back." I'm sure the organisers of Bilderberg will be delighted to know that. As the last limousines purred off to their private jets, the admin team were lining up for a souvenir snapshot, when up strolled three fearless citizen journalists, cameras whirring, live streams streaming. Mayhem ensued:
Shrieks, hands to the lens, various escortings from the premises. A lovely moment ruined. I almost feel sorry for them.
No, wait … I don't.

What a Bilderberg it's been. Big names, big money, big decisions, big crowds. Somewhere around 800 activists outside the gates (up from about a dozen in 2009), and inside? Well, here's what we learned.
A Mitt Romney attendance?
Four eyewitnesses on the hotel staff told me Willard Mitt Romney was here at Bilderberg 2012. My four eyewitnesses place him inside. That's one more than Woodward and Bernstein used. Romney's office initially refused to confirm or deny his attendance as Bilderberg is "not public". They later said it was not him.
So, was he being crowned, or singing for his supper? Will Mitt Romney follow in the august footsteps of Clinton, Cameron and Blair to have attended Bilderberg and then shortly become leader? Four years ago, Senator Obama shook off his press detail and nipped (many think) into Bilderberg. This exact same hotel.
Did Romney have to get down on one knee in front of David Rockefeller? This sounds flippant, but it's a serious question: has Bilderberg switched allegiance? Are they going to toss away Obama after just one term?
I put this question to author and Bilderberg expert Webster Tarpley. Is Wall Street going to throw its chips in with Romney? "I think there's a frisson that's gone through the ruling class against Obama," he says. The leak we had from the flirty hotel staffer corroborated this. "They don't seem to like Obama very much," he said.
Tarpley's conclusion is this: "They want Romney and Mitch Daniels, who will run together as moderate rightists." Governor Daniels of Indiana was on the official list.
The official list is nonsense
The Washington Post saw Bill Gates come in. And I've got three eyewitnesses from inside who confirmed he was here. This is his ear:
You won't see the names Mitt Romney or Bill Gates on the officially released Final List of Participants because, well, the list is a nonsense. It's nothing like a complete list of people who attend Bilderberg. It's a smokescreen, a bit of spin. So can we all, please, stop repeating it as gospel?
The Syrian war is on
Attending Bilderberg 2012 as an 'international' participant was Bassma Kodmani.
So who is Bassma Kodmani? The answer to that question is also the answer to the question: what the hell is happening in Syria? This is where it gets interesting (and worrying) for Bilderberg followers.
Kodmani was at Bilderberg in 2008, the last time it was here in Chantilly. She is a member of the European Council on foreign relations – its parent group, the council on foreign relations, is a sort of über lobby group, a couple of rungs down from Bilderberg, but still hugely powerful.
There's a lot of CFR/Bilderberg crossover. Honorary chairman of both is David Rockefeller; co-chairman of the CFR is Robert Rubin (he was here); and on the CFR's board of directors are Fouad Ajami and Henry Kravis, both at Bilderberg 2012.
Bassma Kodmani is also the executive director of the Arab Reform Initiative. This body, set up in 2004 by the CFR, is helping to steer "a comprehensive process" of "democratic reform" in the region. In 2005, the Syrian National Council came into being. Bassma Kodmani was a founding member, and is on the executive committee. Kodmani is one of the SNC's two spokespeople, alongside Radwan Ziadeh (who has a flawless Washington pedigree – look him up). According to its website, the SNC is a non profit public policy research organization register in the District of Colombia and headquartered in Washington DC. Just up the road.
I asked Tarpley about Kodmani. He doesn't mince words. "She's a Nato agent, a destabilizer, a colour revolution queen. The fact that Kodmani was there is a scary one for Syria", says Tarpley.
To those gathered outside, at least, it looks increasingly like, at this year's Bilderberg, the war of regime change got signed off. In the airport lobby, on the way home from Bilderberg, I looked up at a TV monitor to see Bilderberg attendee and CFR board member Fouad Ajami talking about how Syria is about to become another Libya. That sound you can hear? It's all those juicy defence contracts being scratched out around Chantilly. Fuel the jets and open the champagne, boys. We're going in.
Occupy Bilderberg turned up
A statement of support from Occupy London was read out at Occupy Bilderberg. A symbol of Anglo-American unity, like Bilderberg itself. The statement protested against (amongst other things): the rise of an undemocratic "technocracy" – a "network of cronies" in which financial "experts", largely from the international banking community, who have been appointed rather than elected, are handed the reins of government.
So here you've got the (broadly speaking) liberal left protest movement, with its anti-corruption and pro-transparency agenda, finding common ground with US libertarians and an anti-Obama, anti-fascist, pro-union New Deal American like Webster Tarpley.
As Tarpley says: "Bilderberg creates a singularity, where a lot of seemingly disparate things come together." That applies not just to the people inside – megabank money and government – outside the security cordon you've got Occupy Bilderberg rubbing shoulders with US veterans, German students who've flown over for the event, truckers from Michigan, Orthodox Jews, Ron Paul supporters, anarcho-syndicalists, academics and grandmothers.
Why? In the words of the statement from Occupy London: "the profound denial of a participatory, direct democracy which the Bilderberg Conference represents."
Mainstream news turned up
Finally. The Washington Times sent Ben Wolfgang, the Guardian sent Ryan Devereaux and the Times of London actually tried to get a journalist inside – Alexandra Frean was turned away at the gates. But she tried. At least she tried. That's a start. We can work with that.
Internet ID
There was speculation before the conference that on the Bilderberg agenda this year would be how to implement a unique EU internet ID. Who would be pushing that through? Step up Neelie Kroes, EU commissioner for digital agenda.
Presumably Eric Schmidt (Google) and Reid Hoffman (LinkedIn) would have been sharing podium-space with Bill Gates at that session. That's if there was one, of course.

In Charlie Skelton's latest, a surprise guest slips into Bilderberg, and gets a warm reception from the 'Golden Bullhorn'
Yesterday at 4pm a limousine with a police motorcade entered the rear entrance of the Bilderberg hotel. Heavy security, heavyweight politician. Let the guesses commence: was it Romney getting the green light for the presidency? Was it Hilary, nipping in to sign off on Iran?
4pm – time to freshen up, before a mix and mingle over cocktails, and a place at the top table for an extremely noisy dinner. The noise was courtesy of the Bilderberg bullhorn disco – an iTunes playlist, blasted out at the hotel.
During cocktail hour, the delegates chatted amiably about Greek asset stripping to the tune of Killing In The Name by Rage Against The Machine. Over dinner, they divided up the post-invasion Iran restructuring contracts to Uprising by Muse. And just before the noise curfew kicked in, they sipped their coffee to the gentle sway of Megadeth's Endgame.
The Bilderberg bullhorns went head-to-head mid-afternoon, in the 'Best Rant' contest, for the chance to win a golden bullhorn. The rants were judged by We Are Change San Antonio and guerilla moviemaker Mark Dice. The winning rant was delivered by Steve Milroy, who said modestly, as he collected his prize: "They only voted for me because I was packing heat."

The security fence shook on its hinges as Milroy blasted Bilderberg. "The world is onto you!" he boomed. "We're going to grab hold of your leg like a rabid dog and we won't let go. You're choosing our next president! You're trying to tell us we have a choice between Goldman… and Sachs!" Although that's not entirely fair, as I'm sure JP Morgan and Citigroup have a say.
So, was it the next US president who was escorted inside to give the after dinner speech? Obviously we've no idea who was in the limo, but we can be certain it wasn't Kissinger. Henry's been gliding in and out with untinted windows all weekend. So much so, that people have been worrying about the effect of the sunlight on his skin. "Maybe he has a special cream that stops him melting," suggests someone from the crowd, as Henry disappears inside again and the catcalls fade.
"It's weird. He seems to feed off the energy," says Steve Davies, from Press For Truth. Steve has travelled down with his colleague Dan Dicks. I ask what prompted the trip. "Lots of big Canadians here this year," explains Dan. "We've got Alison Redford, the Premier of Alberta, Mark Carney who's the head of the Bank of Canada – he was a managing director of Goldman Sachs before he took that job. And there's the private bankers, of course. Edmund Clark and Frank McKenna – one and two at the TD Bank Group."
"It's a giant bank" explains Steve with a sigh. "But that's what Bilderberg's all about: the merging of state and corporate interests – government serving corporations. There's not much coverage in Canada of Bilderberg – but people are hungry for this info and they're not finding it."
At Bilderberg, every distinction melts away: banking/academia/ownership/leadership/politics – they all just mudge into one. Twenty-eight-year-old activist John Colonna objects to the mudge. "What we need is a separation of banking and government. We need to pull them apart. Bilderberg is where they come together. The ideology of Bilderberg is the fusion of big corporations and big government. This is fascism. This is what commentators on the liberal left don't get. They've got a blind spot."
John shakes his head tiredly. "Big corporations have taken over the government. It's actually pretty easy to figure out." The history is long and complicated, the scale of cronyism and control can be giddying, but somehow it can be made to fit on a single placard.
Speaking of giddying, I would be failing in my duty as a responsible journalist if I didn't bow to pressure from readers to stick in another photo of activist Collin Abramowicz. Here he is, smouldering angrily at the New World Order. Seriously, if there are any modeling agents watching this – every single picture I've got of Collin practically melts the screen. Oh, and I'm taking 15%. Gross, not net.
Photos and footage from this year's protest have been pouring out onto the web, and people are tired and sunburned today – but a duty to go record and protest the event has dragged them back to the action. "I shouldn't be standing here with my camera," laments Michael Agyeman, 22, an aeronautics student from New Jersey. "But if I'm not here, who's going to cover this? Where is CNN? There's a job to do, so I'm going to do it."
Students have been a big part of Bilderberg 2012. I meet Matt Bobeng and Sam Porter, both 19, from North Carolina State University. I tell Matt, a chemistry major, something that I've noticed over the years: that I find the people outside Bilderberg peculiarly intelligent. "I like to consider us smart people," he laughs. "Me and a bunch of idiots? I don't like that idea." I ask Matt what happens when he talks to his friends about Bilderberg. "People typically don't like the idea of government conspiracies. Government is their safety blanket. You tell a toddler their favourite blanket is full of lice and disease, they'll be resistant to that, they find it uncomfortable."
Sam is studying computer programming: "I have a very analytical mind, and I think it's important for everyone to make their own analysis. Go home, and do your own research." Always, from everyone here, this is the message at Bilderberg. Go and study. Look stuff up. Don't take my word for it. To which I would add, don't take Robert Kagan's word for it.
The 'party line' quote that has been doing the rounds this year is from Robert Kagan, who's a Romney advisor, arch neo-con, and co-founder of the Project for the New American Century. Of Bilderberg, he says:
"With all due respect … it's a lot of vaguely uninteresting people giving vaguely uninteresting lectures and then having nice meals in nice places."
Well, with all due respect Robert, not only is Chantilly, Virginia, not a 'nice place' (it's really, properly ghastly – a tarmac dystopia, an arms company Mecca), but maybe not everyone finds the attendees of Bilderberg "vaguely uninteresting". They might find it "interesting" that the chairman, vice-chairman, and CEO of Shell are meeting up, for a three-day conference, with the chairman of Barclays, the White House national security advisor, the head of the NSA, the head of HSBC, the Chancellor of Austria, the Lord Chancellor of Britain, the governor of Indiana, the CEO of Unilever, the director-general of the World Trade Organization, the president of the World Bank and the head of the Dow Chemical Group.
Who has to show up before Kagan finds it noteworthy…? Kermit the Frog? Rihanna? George Washington? The cast of Ghostbusters? What if Henry Kissinger promised to give the CEO of Airbus a lapdance? What could possibly make Kagan stop yawning at the sheer boredom of Bilderberg?
You must be stark staring crazy to think there's anything to worry about at Bilderberg. Matt Bobeng bristles at the fact that there's still a stigma attached to taking this summit seriously. "People say to themselves: what will people think if I start talking about that? This is effectively an ostracism of ideas."
Yesterday, at breakfast, I asked businessman and navy veteran Wayne Fritzsche if he felt 'crazy' being here – talking about Bilderberg? He smiled. "No. I feel informed."

My letter to the Evening Standard (for what its worth)

I would like to respond to your published comment about Marcus Agius attending this year's Bilderberg meeting (6th June).

In response to the on-going Leveson enquiry, the mainstream media claim there is a continued need for a freedom of the press in order to bring those in position of authority or leadership to account for their actions.

Wanting a freedom of the press is one thing but, as George Orwell wrote in his unpublished foreward to Animal Farm, the media are more than happy to censor themselves on issues which really are in the public interest but not in their own self-interest to publish.

Why is there so much secrecy surrounding the Bilderberg meetings and why do the media remain silent? Maybe it is because representatives of the media are also attendees, but if these meetings are so benign and innocent as the attendees claim, why doesn't the media report on them once they are finished and give an account of what was discussed and what decisions were made?

After all, if the attendees have nothing to fear, then surely they have nothing to hide. This is the excuse the Government makes when it tries to destroy civil liberties and create secret tribunals.

It is also noteworthy that Bilderberg is always held at the Marriott hotel in Chantilly. This year’s Republican presidential candidate Willard Mitt Romney owes his first name to J. Willard Marriott, founder of the Marriott Corporation.

Bilderberg Conference plots more turmoil in Russia

The annual secretive Bilderberg Group conference, which brings together the capitalist world’s financial, political, and media kingpins in various venues, was held this year in Chantilly, Virginia, near the back gate of Washington Dulles International Airport. The Marriott Westfields resort hotel venue allowed official and unofficial guests to make their way from the airport as clandestinely as possible, thus avoiding the large number of protesters representing both the progressive “Occupy” and conservative “Tea Party” movements who gathered at the government security perimeter erected for the “private” conference.

This year’s Bilderberg conference featured three guests from Russia. However, unlike the “establishment” figures from Western nations, including the United States, Britain, Germany, France, and Canada, two of the three Russians represented the anti-Valdimir Putin opposition. Present at Bilderberg 2012 were Anatoly Chubais and Garry Kasparov, leading anti-Putin Russian politicians.

Chubais is reviled among a majority of Russians for shepherding the wholesale privatization of Soviet and Russian Federation state enterprises under the administration of President Boris Yeltsin and Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin. The chief benefactors of the privatization were a handful of Russian entrepreneurs who soon became billionaire oligarchs. Many of these oligarchs soon found themselves in prison in Russia or in exile in Britain and Israel to avoid prosecution in Russia. Today, Chubais is the head of Rusnano, a leading Russian nanotechnology firm.

At the Chantilly conclave, Chubais rubbed shoulders with the robber barons of Wall Street, including former Goldman Sachs and Citigroup senior executive and Bill Clinton Treasury Secretary Robert E. Rubin, Goldman Sachs International Chairman Peter Sutherland, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Company co-chairman Henry Kravis and former Obama Office of Management and Budget director and current Citigroup vice chairman Peter Orszag.

Chubais has also held meetings with the U.S. ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul. McFaul has, like a number of new breed activist U.S. ambassadors, grossly interfered in the domestic affairs of the country to which he is posted. After one recent meeting with Chubais, McFaul publicly complained that Russian Russian NTV journalists were waiting for him as he departed the from the meeting. Displaying all the signs of a paranoid conspiracy theorist, McFaul bellyached that his email and phone calls were being eavesdropped upon by the Russian press thus giving the media a heads up as to his daily itinerary.

Kasparov, the leader of the United Civil Front of Russia, and his colleague Boris Nemtsov are leading members of the Russian opposition to Putin. McFaul has openly championed the opposition cause. Moreover, Nemtsov is an old political ally of Chubais. Chubais, Kasparov, and Nemtsov represent the “neo-liberal” political ideology that is supported by the likes of international stock and currency speculator and multi-billionaire George Soros. Neo-liberals, if they were to come to power in Russia, would transform Russia into a nation totally dependent on the dictates and whims of the financial elites of New York, London, and Frankfurt. It is apparent that given the representation of bankrupted European nations at Bilderberg 2012, Chubais and Kasparov would relish a Russia forced to impose strict austerity measures on its citizens on the orders of the global banking elites, turning Russia into another Greece, Spain, and Ireland.

Bilderberg 2012 was not lost on American protesters who abhor the secret deliberations of the global elites who regularly gather to plot and scheme at venues like Bilderberg, G-8 and G-20, Davos, and the more obscure but no less important annual Ambrosetti Forum, called “mini-Davos,” held in Cernobbio on the shores of Lake Como, Italy. This year at Bilderberg, protesters of the progressive “Occupy Wall Street” movement and the right-wing “Tea Party” joined forces to call attention to the secret machinations transpiring inside the Chantilly, Virginia hotel.

Although Russia was certainly on the agenda of Bilderberg 2012 as witnessed by the presence of two leading Russian opposition figures, it was not the only country targeted by the secretive global power brokers. The Bashar al Assad government of Syria was also on the Bilderberg hit list. Present at the Chantilly conclave was Bassma Kodmani, member of the executive bureau and chief foreign affairs spokesman of the Syrian National Council, the umbrella rebel alliance that includes “Al Qaeda” veterans of guerrilla wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, and Libya. As further evidence of the collusion of the Western elites with controlled forces of disruption that include “Al Qaeda,” leading neo-conservatives, including those who advocated for the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq, were also in attendance at Bilderberg. They included Richard Perle of the American Enterprise Institute, a frequent habitué of Bilderberg; noted Zionist Dennis Ross, the “career” U.S. Middle East envoy who has ensured that recent Democratic presidents align their foreign policies with Israel, and the always reliable Arab apologist for Israel and the United States, Fouad Ajami of the Hoover Institution.

The attendance of corporate media executives is also a hallmark of Bilderberg. Chantilly was no exception this year. Present at Bilderberg 2012 were Donald Graham, chairman and CEO of the Washington Post Company; Charlie Rose, member of the elitist Council on Foreign Relations and host of the U.S. Public Broadcasting System’s Charlie Rose Show; John Micklethwait, the editor-in-chief of The Economist; Martin Wolf, chief economics commentator for the Financial Times; Erik Izraelewicz, the CEO of France’s Le Monde; Enis Berberoglu, editor-in-chief of Turkey’s Hurriyet newspaper; Jonas Bonnier of the Swedish media giant Bonnier AB; and Oscar Bronner, owner of Austria’s Der Standard newspaper. Bilderberg meetings are all off-the-record so it is evident that the media representatives are not serving the interests of the Fourth Estate or the journalism profession but are acting as facilitators for the architects of the “new world order” of vulture, vampire, and vermin capitalism.

The director of the U.S. National Security Agency and U.S. Cyber Command, General Keith Alexander, made a repeat Bilderberg showing at Chantilly. Undoubtedly, America’s and Israel’s new willingness to engage in cyber-warfare through the use of the “Flame” virus launched against Iran in the CIA’s and Mossad’s operation “Olympic Games” and their earlier use of the Stuxnet virus against Iran was on the agenda at Bilderberg. Also present in Chantilly was Thomas Donilon, President Obama’s National Security Adviser.

Representatives of Europe’s banker-ravaged nations of Greece, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Ireland were also present in Chantilly, obviously to give the bankers an update on how their vile form of capitalism has managed to successfully re-introduce high unemployment, starvation, and homelessness to the European continent.

In a display of “transparency” Bilderberg has, in recent years, published its attendee list. However, this list is misleading. Although the list includes those who attend the entire conference, it omits those who slip in and out covertly. The names of Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton appeared no where on the official list at Bilderberg 2008, which was also held in Chantilly. However, it is reasonably certain that both were present at the conference. Some government leaders are quite content to openly attend Bilderberg. This year’s conference saw Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann, Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, and Alberta Premier Alison Redford on the official guest list.

Vladimir vs Bilderberg

Vladimir Putin has been busier than Obama making excuses recently with trips to China and talks with leaders from Iran and Afghanistan. Self interests aside, he clearly demonstrates a desire in defending Russia and nurturing Russia's future. However, like any good farmer, he's found many weeds sown by the enemy. The new law passed recently is a sword that protects Russian citizens and attacks people like McFaul, Soros and their Bilderberg friends.
This year in January, Obama's Unites States was so kind to send a new ambassador to Russia, Michael McFaul. He's no stranger to Russia. Being a generous man, he helped bring chaos and misery to Russia in the 90's. You would think his Russian would be better than it is today but he doesn't really care. As he said,
"Most Russia-watchers are diplomats, or specialists on security and arms control. Or Russian culture. I am neither. I can't recite Pushkin by heart. I am a specialist in democracy, anti-dictatorial movements, and revolutions"
In other words he is a no account trouble maker. He paid people to protest during the Russian presidential election and like a disease they passed it on. He admits meeting with protesters when an NTV reporter asked him in this video (English subtitles). He has admitted in the past that the US was involved in the color Revolutions in the Ukraine and Georgia. He gladly wrote,
"Does this kind of intervention violate international norms? Not anymore."

Revolutions
McFeisty McFaul, Gene Sharp with George Soros as his sponsor, are experts in starting color revolutions. It always seems to involve the US. Soros, who favors Romney now since he gave up on Obama, has been spreading "democracy" for years as a Bilderberger. By the late 1990s, Soros gave $400 million annually for "democracy" programs in Europe. Unfortunately, the world has lost count since he spreads his wealth everywhere. When they say "spreading democracy" it means chaos and death as was prevalent in their Arab Spring.
Well, keep spreading the joy McFaul. Almost everyone loves money. Only this time "Vlad, Your Impaler", is making a few changes. The new Russian law that was passed by the Lower Duma in May, was signed by President Putin on June 8th in this video. The law increases fines for illegal protests and protesters not willing to behave. Masks and weapons are now illegal. Leaders of the protests cannot have violated the law two or more times within a year. That leaves out a lot of McFaul's buddies. Too bad so sad. Protesters stepping over the line can get 20 to 200 hours of community service, for a maximum of four days a week. President Putin said,
"In enabling some of the public to express their opinions, including street action, a society must also protect the rest of the public from radicalism."
As I wrote in my article about the Bilderberg meeting, "...you can be sure few Russians are there. There are hateful critics of Russia's beloved Vladimir Putin like Garry Kasparov (Chairman) of the United Civil Front." There were two others there that cannot be overlooked. Igor Ivanov,President, Russian International Affairs Council, who was succeeded by Sergey Lavrov as foreign minister in 2004, dislikes Putin. Anatoly Chubais, , CEO of OJSC RUSNANO, is one of those who gutted Russia like a fish in the 90's and hates Putin for having the gall to stop him.
Of course, little Anatoly is also a friend of McFaul who was part of that Russian fish fry that illegally stole money from Russia. We know they have received new orders from the Bilderbergers to start another revolution in Russia or cause some other kind of misery. The question is, why do they waste their time in Russia? According to Wikileaks, even McFaul gets nervous around Putin. Never send a boy to do a man's job. I'm sure Putin laughs at their pathetic attempts.

Political Chess Master
President Putin is a chess master in world affairs and in protecting Russia. Nazi Germany underestimated Russia as the Communists underestimated Christianity. Naturally, the Bilderbergers underestimate Vladimir Putin, whom they have tried to assassinate this year in a video where US backed terrorist Doku Umarov is implicated. The Bilderbergers killed Kennedy and shot Reagan but they cannot kill their old nemesis who destroys their plans of world domination. In their NWO they demonize Putin who they incorrectly claim to be a Communist even though Zyuganov is the Communist leader and most Communists hate Putin like they do. You'd think the Bilderbergers would join the Communists openly and wear hammer and sickle T-shirts like they do in Chicago. FYI for the brainwashed, President Vladimir Putin has been and still is a member of the United Russia party whose symbol is a polar bear.
Vladimir Putin was born on the feast day of St Michael. Michael means, "Who is like unto God". In response to the pompous Bilderbergers, President Putin has kindly said, "Who the Hell are you?!" and has pushed Russia's enemies back wherever they have attacked. He has a solid team ready to help him and the blessings from God to protect him in this video, as well as millions of Russians who are not afraid to defend their faith when it's attacked. I know it won't stop the Bilderbergers since God is not part of their equation, but in the end it will.

China
President Putin was in China last June 5 - 7 in this unique video. He met Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Zhijun in Beijing on Tuesday. Putin met with President Hu Jintao and attended a summit meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). The SCO includes Russia, China, and four Central Asian nations - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Afghanistan received the status of an observer in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) last Thursday in this video where President Vladimir Putin congratulated Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai. Now, that's the way you treat Afghanistan.
He's unifying the East and making a profit for Russia and those countries involved. A big business opportunity: Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree abolishing visas for Russian and foreigners owning business cards and office visits from countries participating in the forum, APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) held in Vladivostok next September.

Iran
Needless to say, the western MSM ignored videos like this one, "Putin 2012 Iran", where President Putin lays down the law for Ahmadinejad. He not only wanted to expand business dealings with Iran in the Caspian Sea but also said,
"We have always supported the right of the Iranians to use the latest technology, including peaceful nuclear energy. I want to stress this - peaceful. You know where we stand on this: we faithfully adhere to non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. But we also know where you stand, where Iran's government stands. The 2012 members list released by the Bilderbergers is most remarkable for what it does not mention. The incoming chairman runs one of the biggest insurance companies in the world. Many members own banks. Europe requires banks and insurance companies to buy toxic national bonds. Wouldnt it be nice if Ben Bernanke would print up 10 or 20 trillion dollars and swap out toxic assets for international bonds. Kevin Warsh who is listed as a college professor is a former member of the Bush Plunge Protection team and a member of the Federal Reserve Board. Warsh is highly recommended by his friend Bernanke. That is good news for billionaires but might not be good news for you.

I calculate that we might be able to pay off all of these debts if Obama and the Congress raise taxes to 100% for a thousand years.

And while we are at it, what explosive force was required to blow up 500,000 tons (453,592,400 kilograms) of reinforced concrete and turn it into dust in 2 seconds? 911 was a controlled demolition. For example, give 100,000 patients Vitamin D-3 and cinnamon to stabilize their diabetes. Test them monthly. They should do as well as drugged patients after 3 months with far fewer side effects. Beneficial side effects for Vitamin D3 are fewer winter colds and flu and a reduction of 72% of the incidence of a dozen different cancers. As soon as the results have verified, the government can issue a decree allowing insurance companies to refuse payment for any drug ruled to produce no better results than a home remedy. This would require corporations to focus on real treatments and cures.

Nick Boles MP, a key Cameron ally, attended this year's secretive Bilderberg meeting.
His trip doesn't prove he is a shape-shifting alien - although I am open to suggestions on his space-lizardiness - but it does show the ugly nature of what Boles called the "leading and well-known" folk in charge.
The Bilderberg Group brings together 120 or so top politicians and businessmen for a conference every year.
It was founded in the '50s after some pro-US European politicians asked the CIA's help to get some kind of "Atlanticist" business-oriented event going.
This top nobs' secret conflab makes many suspect Bilderberg is an agenda-setting conspiracy.
Personally I think it is something like a Tolpuddle Festival for the ruling elite - somewhere they can meet to thrash out a few ideas, express some solidarity and have a good time.
Of course, at Tolpuddle we self-consciously affirm solidarity of working people. But our elites are supposed to be all about business competition and national rivalry.
The obvious solidarity at the top shown by Bilderberg doesn't sit well with the official story about competitive free markets and patriotic nations.
It suggests the participants feel more in common as members of an international ruling class than they feel in competition with each other.
People in the US are brought up to firmly believe in free markets and patriotism, so they are often most offended by Bilderberg meetings.
Some get so angry that they start believing Bilderberg is a powerful conspiracy, showing the world is run by Illuminati, alien lizards or Knights Templar.
Over here, I think we are more likely to shrug our shoulders and think "there goes the establishment, scratching each other's backs again."
Bilderberg conference proceedings are secret, but we do know the attendees. They are a creepy bunch.
Boles, a former flatmate of Michael Gove's, was a key member of Cameron's "Notting Hill Set." He founded the Cameroonian think tank Policy Exchange and was this year's Tory "rising star" at the conference.
More senior Tories also usually attend. This year it was Ken Clarke. George Osborne went to the preceding four Bilderberg conferences.
Boles told his constituents that Bilderberg was all about "leading figures" in politics and business.
This June's conference, held in the Marriott hotel in Chantilly, near Washington, also hosted Marcus Agius, the "leading figure" who had to resign as Barclays chairman because his staff had been fiddling the figures.
Other "leading figures" at the conference include Peter Mandelson, who had to resign from government twice, only to reappear as an unelected European Commissioner.
HSBC boss Douglas Flint was also there. He hasn't had to resign. Yet.
It's hard not to be suspicious when the bosses from firms like Shell, Vodafone and Airbus meet with centre and right-wing politicians in secret.
Boles offered more evidence on the creepy character of the Bilderbergers.
His entry in the Register of MPs' Interests says the American Friends of Bilderberg paid for his ticket.
US tax returns show Friends of Bilderberg directors include Henry Kissinger, James Wolfensohn and Richard Perle.
So the pals who paid for Nick's jolly Bilderberg trip are the man behind the bombing of Cambodia, the man who led the World Bank at its worst and a leading promoters of the lies behind the Iraq war.

Apparently I might have misjudged Grantham’s worthy MP Nick Boles. It seems he could be destined for even greater political heights than becoming the government’s new planning minister.

I understand that he has already founded top Cameron think-tank, the Policy Exchange, which is alleged to get funding from big business to argue for deregulation and privatisation.

Mr Boles was also quoted from a speech to the Tory Reform Group this year as claiming that the building of new houses is being deterred by “bureaucratic rigidity of our outdated planning regime.”

Controversial? It’s not for me to say.

In fact the Local Government Association has revealed that developers are actually hoarding not simply building land but also unused planning permission for some 400,000 homes.

Could this be one of the reasons for the growing number of unsightly and unused demolition sites in and around Grantham?

Presumably it also reveals that the government’s scheme to remove planning restrictions and allow developers to bulldoze the green belt is not simply about building more homes, but a way of boosting corporate profits with Yuppie developments in very beautiful and therefore very saleable locations.

In the same speech Nick Boles is quoted as attacking the beloved National Trust’s popular campaign to protect the green belt, criticising it as the, “hysterical scaremongering of latter-day Luddites.”

Our politically rising star is also said to be an initiate of the prestigious but secretive Bilderberg Group, which some “conspiracy theorists” say has so much power it can even exercise major influence on international governments.

Success indeed!

Who knows? Our Nick might one day have the ability to challenge the enigmatic Boris Johnson for David Cameron’s crown, although I would suspect his ambitions might be in other directions.
